Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with metastatic of the liver. My mom was diagnosed last November and she currently has abdominal pains. Doctors are telling her its in the terminal stage. Just want to symptoms and how much time she has left.

I am very familiar with this type of cancer. My mother was diagnosed 6-6-08, it had metastacized from her colan. My mother's pain had already began when she was diagnosed, that was the reason for the doctor visit. Her progress was very quick from then, even though the doctors gave us false hope, she passed on August 26, 2008.

She had many different symptoms for the last month, but the one that hospitalized her several times was the fact that she was having trouble breathing. and at the time we wre told it was her chemo. but the breathing continued to worsen and she also began to swell from fluid build up, and her pain became increasingly worse. She had zero appetite. the breathing eventually turned into a "gargle" sound that was always there.

I can not tell you how long your mother has but I will be glad to answer any other questions you may have about my mother's symptoms. Every case is different, but I have found recently that every case is also more similar than we would like.

I really do hope this will help you in some way. I will be praying for you and your family. Please let me know if you would like to talk again.

Thank you for responding.

Doctors told us she has 3 months and that was last November. Right she has pain in her abdomen on the side. She said her legs are weak and shaky. She sometimes has to go to the hospital to get blood transfusion. Her eyesight is cloudy and has headaches. She takes Oxycodone for her pain and has constipation. Also she gets what looks like pimples on her head and arms. She still talks about getting better so were being supportive. Did your mother have similar symptoms before she started going downhill?

My father was told 4.5 years ago that he had less than 6 months due to colon cancer that had metastasized to his liver. That was before the awesome oncologist Dr. Ahmed Ghany at James at OSU and skilled surgeon of Dr. David Geller at UPMC - he is not only alive, but thriving....please make sure you've exhausted all options...Dr. Geller has helped so many who were told there were no options - he has showed them otherwise. He is amazing. Tell him Michelle from Columbus sent you! He will work with you via email to see if he has a chance to help so you don't travel before you need to: vDr. David A. I contacted Dr. Geller's office and was told they could not help my husband.  Even though, I was exstremely impressed with his office.

He has unknown primary with mets to the bone and liver.

He is 47 years old.  First diagnosed in June of '05 with cancer unknown primary found in lymnodes under arm.  Clear until Jan. '08, came back same spot, under arm in lymnodes.  Then in August of "08 pet scan showed it had traveled to his liver, inumerable spots and bone, numerous areas.

He is doing Folfox chemo.  It is working, last scan showed shrinkage in all areas.  First two chemo's they tried did not work and there was growth.  He is handling this chemo well.  He is relatively asymtomatic.  Good apetite.

While I am happy with our doctors I often wonder if they are giving it to us straight.
