Triple Negative Breast Cancer

I have read on line articles that says most triple negative breast cancers will relapse within  2-5 years after diagnoses if the cancer is not fully gone from the body. If they do not relapse after 5 years of being cancer free that it is unusual, but not rare for the cancer to return then. Can someone please tell me whether or not this information is accurate?

Hi Triple Negs!!

If you are with NED (No Evidence of Disease) for three years, the chances of reoccurance drops. After five years, the chances drop significantly. I have been NED for 13months! Yippee! Anyhow, the website Tnbcfoundation.com is a really good resource to let you know the differences between Trip Neg and regular breast cancer. The message boards are really informative and they have great articles that you don't have to be a md to understand. They usually answer your message within 24 hours if you have a question.

I was diagnosed in April of 2007 with stage IIb triple negitive breast cancer with an eight centimeter tumor in my left breast. Had three different chemo drugs to shrink it ( including A/C!!), then partial mastectomy, then rads. Finished treatment in Feb 2008 after three port infections and a killer case of Guillien Barre! Well... I guess it wasn't a killer case now was it?? Sorry my weird sense of humor is a coping mechanism. Anyhow, my thryroid was effected by the chemo and was severely hyperactive. I wore a size 3x. It was a good thing cuz I lost 87 pounds in eight weeks!! I was in a size six and looking like Karen Carpenter! After thyroid surgery and surgery to fix my vocal cords ( which was messed up in the thyroid surgery) I am much better now. smile.

Just to let you know, it can be a long road but it is worth the fight! Don't be discouraged and surround yourself with positive supportive people if you can. And the more Trip Neg specific information you can get the better! Sorry for waxing on and on, but you sounded just like me after diagnosis. "Triple What??
