SCARED and WORRIED!!

Hi everyone, I'm 54 years old and have been dealing with stomach problems for a couple of years now. I had my gallbladder out 2 years ago. My symptoms are severe bloating, distented stomach(like i'm 8 months preg.) weight gain, Medium hiatal hernia, GERD, reflux, gastritis, upper stomach pain, feeling full without eating much.

Had a colonoscopy and endoscopy done about 6-7 months ago and thats when I was diagnosed with small hiatal hernia, gerd, gastritis and 1 nodule which was biopsied and came back neg. The colonoscopy was good. GI doctor put me on omeprazole.

Now for the past couple months I'm having trouble swallowing(pills and food getting caught in throat). So I call GI doctor and she makes an appointment for a CT scan...ok I went to that and DR. said it showed nothing wrong with stomach but showed cysts on ovarys so I should go get a sonogram done so I went to that appointment, yup sure enough two small cysts, one on each ovary.  GI doctor said i should follow up with a GYN. Then GI DR. makes me an appointment for an upper endoscopy and dilation. Mind you all these appointments are all in one week, which  I'm glad because I want to get to the bottom of this! So I had my endoscopy and dilation and what they found was a MEDIUM HIATAL HERNIA (last one showed small so it has gotten bigger) An ABNORMAL THICKENING FOLD in the LESSER CURVATURE, and NODULARITY in the GASTROESOPHAGEAL juction compatible to ESOPHAGITIS otherwise normal EDG to the third part of the DUODENUM. BIOPSYS were done on the esophagus( looking for BARRETT'S ESOPHAGUS) and also took a biopsy of the thickening.

Here are my questions that maybe someone else has experienced or has some knowledge about. Of course I'm so scared it is cancer(waiting 2 weeks for the results are awful!) Why didn't the CT scan show anything abnormal in the stomach? Do abnormal thickening in the fold of the lesser curvature usally cancer? What else could it be besides cancer? I'm so scared!! I'm raising my 2 grandchildren and they they need me!

Thank you for listening, you are all in my thoughts and prayers, Jean

I can understand your fears but please don't jump ahead of yourself. I know that is easier said than done, but please wait for the biopsy results before looking too far ahead with all the "what ifs."  I know...scary times, and waiting is awful. Please let us know what you find out.

Best wishes,

Lissa

Lissa, Thanks for your support, my friends and family are telling me the same thing, :) I'm trying to keep busy so the time goes by faster! I just don't feel very good and it's all I can think about! I will definitely let you know the results, should be sometime end of next week.

Thanks, Jean

Just an update.....got a letter with my pathology results!

Biopsy of my stomach showed BENIGN mucosa with hyperplastic mucosal villi. And the esophageal biopsy showed chronic inflammation that is mild and diffuse. I don't know what this means except that it's not CANCER because of the word BENIGN! I have an appointment with the GI doc May 8th, will let you know. My heart goes out to you all! With hugs, Jean
