antioxidants OKay or not??????

HI, my dad was wondering about taking things like vitamin C and green tea during his chemo. I have mostly read that if you are not on chemo that is great to take, but on chemo it was not a good idea. Most sites I found said that it was thought that antioxidants (  vitamin C was mentioned over and over) may protect the cancer cells as well as the good cells. Which of course would lessen the effectiveness of the chemo. A few oncologists were saying the opposite, So I was wondering if anyone  had any info on this. What have you been told it was okay to take? They told my dad a good multivitamin is allright, but not extra doses of vit.c, green tea, etc...  So any insight you have would be great.

hi I have advance prostrate cancer since 2007 my doctor told me chemo dos not work on prostrate cancer.so I went on to high dose vitamin C  I have read a lot of reports that say vitamin C is good with chemo and other reports that say it is not. I can safty say, when I was on the  high dose vitamin C   it stoped my mets from getting any worst. then a year or so later it just stop working hear a link http://www.immunemedicine.com/ReferencesVitaminC.asp  from ITL that showes a patient on high dose vitamin C  I since gone onto red clover and the budwig diet and this is working realy well for my type of cancer. I read a lot of good resurch saying that vitamin D3 and chemo realy works well together you can do a surch on sites on "vitamin D3 and chemo " here is a link to one of them http://www.springerlink.com/content/t0q21511672v1qx6/

I still think the best way is with  the Dr Budwig anti- cancer diet here a link to how it works

Hi,  This is my 2nd post within Cancer Compass.  I will respond to the subject directly but first wanted to mention I am a trained First Connection volunteer with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, with concentration in complimentary/alternative medicine(CAM).

You may wish to review this site:  medi.philica.com and find the article by Randolph Howes, MD.,PhD (Johns Hopkins) entitled, "Dangers of Antioxidants in Cancer Patients: A Review"(2009).

I have Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.  I take an EXTENSIVE amount of supplements. I will be attending the international CLL conference in Niagara Falls (Canada) this coming weekend and this issue will be addressed.  For example, Green Tea and Curcummin are two supplements that are being studied with regard to CLL... they are potent antioxidants YET exhibit pro-apoptosis (cell death) properties.

I will try and post the findings from the conference.  If anyone wants to send me a private email question, that's fine.

Jim L.

hi Jim L I have prostrate cancer  I think taking antioxidants with treatment is one of the best thing you could do  I also know that chemo wont work on prostrace cancer but Ive read that new resurch has shown that chemo will work in 40% of cases when taken with 150,000UI a day of vitamin D3 in the  reoport it stated that a patient was taking 5 x 1000ui capules at a time every waken hour with chemo for three months if you do a surch on vitamin D3 and chemo you will see what I mean http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/04/070426132954.ht

I know you can get Protection from chemotherapy-induced alopecia by 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3. (vitamin D3 )

The only vitamin supplement that helps with chemo is vitamin D3 all the rest of the vitamins expressly vitamin C protect cells from the damage of poisons mainly by protecting the dells mitochondria [the cell's power sources]," so it can also protect against things like spider bites, snake bits, etc and because the chemo a poisons the vitamin C protected every cell from poision , including cancer cells but I've all so read vitamin C can stop cancer mets dead in it tracks do you know that when ancient people used to eat dried meat in stead of cooking it they found that it had a lot of vitamin C in it the researchers later found these people were free of cancer http://www.webmd.com/cancer/news/20081001/vitamin-c-chemothe

hi Jim L sorry about this But I made a small mistake here. When I said in my last post to you that " I think taking antioxidants with treatment is one of the best thing you could do" I was only talking about  taking vitamin D3 because any other vitamim suplemants are only good if your not haveing chemo vitamin C potects cell from damage from poisons and chemo is a poison all the best Ray

Hi Jim L Ive read that consumption of Omega-3 supplement helps with early stage Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia I know there is a study going on now http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00899353

Estimated Study Completion Date Dec 2011

Escalating doses of Omega 3 Fatty Acids are being used in patients who have early stage Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (ES-CLL), Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS), or Smoldering Multiple Myeloma (SMM), whose disease does not currently require treatment. The primary aim of the study is to determine if the Omega 3 supplementation will help prevent or delay progression of the disease to a stage that requires treatment.

also I sent you this post  I dont know why but it ended up going back to me Cheers Ray
