I am still taking the arimidex, to finish out the meds. I will be seeing the dr. again in august. by then I will be out of pill and can no longer afford them. My med.part d is finished. I am going off arimidex. 7 1/2 years is long enough. I have done reseach and there is no answer on the length of time to be on it. I am just tired. Has anyone else had any luck.

I was told that you need to take it for five years.   I tried taking arimedex but it had me so crippled with hand and foot pain.   I deciede that if this was the quality of life that I had with it, it was not worth it....

I am now taking tamoxifin and I have some pain with it but nothing like with the arimidex...

Did you have any problems with the arimidex???

Good Luck  ~~~~

I don't know your history.  But I've been on Arimidex for 3 years and have gone off for the last two months.  My treatment says I should stay on for 5 years total.  However, I cannot tolerate the side effects and will talk with my oncologist next week.  He will not be happy.  For me my quality of life was terrible.  I'm a little fearful but will take one day at a time.  Good luck with your healing.

I would strongly encourage you to continue the Arimidex.  I took it for five years and got a recurrence six months after stopping.  It is true there is no research for its value after five years, but it may be very valuable to continue taking it.  I certainly wish I had.

Dear Lorraine,

I started out on Tamoxifin. After 2-3 months I got severe leg cramps. It would wake me up and I would be in tears with the cramp. I am no wimp. My dr. switched me to arimidex. I have just about all the side effects. The joint pain sometimes makes it difficult to walk let along do the work that I do. I have stuck it out for going on 71/2 years. They can add to the side effects, shortness of temper, more pain and tiredness that can get over whelming. I wish you and everone the best of luck. Having a sense of Humor does help when things look down. Think possitive. I will be going off the pills and will pray for the best. Watch your diet.

Dear Haverford,

Sorry about your reacurance. I don't know the history. I don't think it matters if you are on it for 5,6,8 or 10 years. I could be off it after 71/2 yrs and get a different type of breast cancer. I hope not and will do all in my power and health changes to see this doesn't happen.I have a cousin who had bc,caught in early stages went through the surgery but now treatment. No chemo, radiation or pills. She had a reacurance 19 years later, different type of bc. She did the same treatment and has been going strong the 4 years since. We are at the mercy of our Dr's and we are supposed to trust in their knowledge. But when my Dr told me they just don't know how long and what effects that prolonged time on the meds can cause. I think we have to use our own judgement. We do know our bodies better than anyone. I want a better life quallity than I have had while on this med. I am gratedful, don't get me wrong but there is a time and place to stop. I wish you well.

Billie
