Myelofibrois

hello...looking for information, my father-in-law was just diagnoised with myelofibrosis today, he is 70 yrs old. I do not know any particulars, accept that the doctor said there is no cure, possibly no treatment and definately no bone marrow surgery because of his age. They have him on folic acid?? Are there stages? any information for would helpful. Is this hereditary? all these questions,,, very limited answers....however reading other posts tell me that the survial rate is very different. My father in law doctor said she has seen a couple monthes to a couple years...yet internet sites say a year to five...and these posts are much more hopefull! He has aready stated he does not want any type of chemo or raditation. Head strong guy! One more thing...alocholic....just questions...all sites say "enlarged liver, spleen" I am sure his liver is already damamged because of his drinking. Any advice, website..links..idea...anything to help me be more informed. I do research where my family does not do that much... thank you all in advance!
