HIFU SEEMS TO HAVE WORKED for me

A quick up-date for anyone interested in pursuing HIFU as an alternative treatment of  Prostate cancer.

It has now been 20 months since I had the procedure in Mexico. I just had my newest psa test and it was 0.04

The only side effect was inconsistant urination, blockage and some leakage. I had a procedure done at Kaiser where some scar tissue was removed from the entrance to the Urethra. All is well now.

hey martino,

my husband and i are headed to mexico next month and i'm a bit scared....ok terrified! lol   if its not too invasive of your privacy, can u please tell me what it was like and how the procedure went for u? i'm worried about all the logistics, ie, ordering a clear liquid diet in a hotel, let alone in a language i barely speak, caring for the catheter, worrying about the procedure itself....as u can see, i have alot of worries....

anyone else who has gone to have the procedure in mexico, please let me know how it went and thanks in advance!

I'll respond to the logistics I found in Puerto Vallerto. I had the HIFU treatment in October 2007. Stayed at the Marriott. Everyone we encountered there, at the restaurants around the marina, and even in Old Town spoke good English. No language problems in taxis nor customs and airports either. For liquid diet, only dinner the night of surgery, we went to the Japanese restaurant in the hotel. I ordered water, tea and clear soup from the menu. The worst thing to watch was my friend eating steak fillet and shrimp while laughing at my gourmet choices. Don't worry.
Just take it one day at a time and enjoy the trip.
