Bowel Obstructions

I've been receiving chemo for 3 1/2 years. Started with carboplatin/taxol, did IP carboplatin, then Doxil, Gemzar and Topotecan. The cancer is still growing and the last CT scan shows the cancer is filling my abdominal cavity and all along my intestinal tract. This causes constant bowel obstructions so I can only eat a few mouthfulls at a sitting. Still I spit most of it up.

My question is has anyone with similar bowel obstructions tried a bowel cleansing regimen like Colonix? If it does what it says it does I should have more room in my intestines and should be able to eat. Hopefully someone has something to tell me about this?!

Hi Linda, I have never had a bowel obstruction. All I can tell you is I did a body cleanse last month and feel great. I do take 12 stool softeners a day plus MiraLax.It has kept my bowels working great. A bowel obstruction is my biggest fear. I will be saying prayers for you. I’m sure you will get responses from others who have had this issue. Good Luck!

Hugs, Terry

Dear Linda,

I have had a terrible time with bowel obstructions.  Was in the hospital for over 41 days with small bowel obstructions, just got home 2 weeks ago.

I have stage 3 ovarian cancer.  Diagnosedjust this past March 09.  I am going to have 6 rounds of chemo - to lessen the cancer burden - and then have the HEPIC surgery with the heated chemotherapy.

I suggest that you look into the HEPIC procedure as a means to put the cancer into remission.  You can get all of you medical records together and send them out for an opinion to see IF you are a canadidate or not.

All of this information is on the Internet. Every woman diagnosed with ovarian cancer should investigate HEPIC - FIRST!

If you email me privately I will be happy to send you many liniks.  The reason that I was hospitilized was to take chemo - to kill off the cancer causing the bowel obstructions - and open up the bowel obstructions.  My HEPIC surgeon did not want to operate until the cancer was reduced.

I have responded well to chemo, tumor markers came down over 50% the first treatment and the bowel obstructions opened after the second chemo treatment. I know what it is not like ti eat for weeks!!!!

Today, I can barely get down a fewe mouthfuls....but progressing and my bowels are now normal - last cat scan showed no cancer on the small bowels.  This was no party, tube down my nose for days, I did not eat for weeks either.  I am still on IV feedings now that I am home. But finally starting to feel better.

I am just waiting to have the HEPIC surgery and heated chemo treatment. EVERY WOMAN - with ovarian cancer should be investigating HEPIC -AS THEIR  FIRST LINE OF OFFENSE......and if you have had other treatments you still may be eligible for HEPIC.

There are Cancer Centers, who will look at your records - if you live far away - and tell you IF the HEPIC treatment woulkd be an option for you.

 CHECK IT OUT!

IF you want any more info, please email me,

Jane

Dear Puna.

Just Google the Internet and you will get lots of information.  Briefly,  HEPIC is a procedure whereas the surgeon removes EVERYTHING in the abdomen that is possible (or needed to be removed ) down to 1cm. This surgery is also called debunkiong surgery.  Then while you are still on the operating table - HEATED CHEMOTHERAPY is process through your abdomen for 2 hours. This kills all of the remaining microscopic cancer particles that surgeons cannot even see.

This chemo is a topical administration in the abdomen, much stronger than IV Chemo because very little will enter the bloodstream. It is like pouring bleach on mold - any remaining cancer is DEAD>.....

Many ovarian and peritoneal patients are never told of this wonderful treatment that can extend life.

Please, just look it up, all the info and doctors who do it are on the Internet.

Good Luck,

Jane

Jane,  Thank you for your info.  I did not have HEPIC done, but he took every thing out that had cancer, (a lot) and did the debulking.  I will look on the internet, had a great surgeon, will ask why it wasn't done, as he is doing all the latest things.  Again, thanks, Puna
