Blood work after treatment

Brand new to site.  Husband diagnosed with Stage 3 RCC.  Mets to small spots on lung.  Spots are too small to biopsy.  Put on Sutent with the typical side effects.  He was diagnosed 2-l/2 years ago.  He has been on the drug for 2 years.  My question is that he still has scans every 3 months.  He has blood drawn weekly.  Is this the norm?

Hi,  My husband has been on Sutent for 1 year (he had 1 kidney removed and had mets to the lungs).  He has a scan and blood work done every six weeks when he is on his 2 weeks off the meds.  There has been some reduction in size of his lung tumors but mostly it has held.  I think they counted @14 lesions, both large and tiny and in both lungs so Sutent is his only option.  I'll be curious to see how often others have it done.   Good luck and God bless.

My husband was on Sutent for 20 months.  When his blood counts start coming bacl low (hgb, rbc, wbc, ect..), they started testing his blood weekly and giving him procrit to keep his counts up.  It is good to keep an eye on their blood while taking these drugs.  Hope this helps.
