I have never found an effective way to "strain" Essiac but I have had excellent results doing the following. I do not remove the pot from the burner that I have boiled it on but just turn off the heat and let the brew sit for the 10 to 12 hours (or overnight) as the recipe calls for. Then I just heat the brew until it is hot but not anywhere near the boil because boiling it roils up the herb mixture in the bottom. Then being very very careful not to disturb the bottom, I gently tip the whole pot just enough to allow the top liquid to slide off into another large pot. You will see when you start doing this that the whole top portion is completely clear and it will be obvious when you get near the bottom that the sludgy stuff begins to string in with the clear. That's when I stop. If there's a lot of liquid left you can wait for a few hours and slide the liquid off again but I usually find the little bit saved is not worth the effort. I then bottle from the second pot and if a tiny bit of the mud does settle to the bottom of any bottle, I shake it well before using it and sip it down. Certainly harmless and probably even helpful..........
