Hello All, I have an uncle(who is more like a father to me) who has been diagnosed with a rather rare stomach cancer known as the GIST. He was first operated in 2002 with fruitful results, then once again in 2006 successfully, after the latter, he was advised to take Gleevec. All was well till 2008 where he started feeling ill again, upon check-up it was discovered that the tumor was back and rapidly spreading. He was told to further increase the dose of Gleevec but little changed. In February this year the doctors took him off Gleveec and started Sutent, a medicine made especially for GIST. It has been 5 weeks since he started this medicine but to no avail. Lately, stomach fluid has started building up in the stomach causing extreme discomfort and distension. Due to this he has almost entirely stopped eating, at the hospital they are administring vitamins and proteins through tubes. In the past 4 days, the liquid has been drained twice 2.8 litres and 4 litres respectively. Just today the doctors told us that the draining cannot be done be this quickly and he has to bare the discomfort. I was wondering if someone is going through the same situation and if someone here can advise me to the course of action. I cannot see him in this situation it, it really pains me:(.
