Hello to everyone.I have only just got the courage to post this letter.I lost my husband to this horrible disease, last year on the 19th December 2008, It was our 43rd wedding anniversary on the 18th of December, one day before he passed away. The hospital staff gave us a pallitive care room for the last 2 weeks of my husbands life, where i slept, ate, and nursed my darling, with the medical staff to help.It was such a horrible time to watch him suffer so much, you feel so helpless,My husband was diagnosed last year in April with stage 4 cancer of the stomach.Chemo was given for 5 months, but my husbands heart could not handle it,and so chemo was stopped in september.For 10 weeks after that,my husband was much happier, because he felt like his old self again. But regrettable it was not to last.My husband started to have swelling in his abdomen, which caused pressure on his lungs and heart. He was hospitalised and doctors drained his abdomen region,i knew when the fluid was bloody, that this was a verry bad sign. They did this 3 times, they also put in a nasal gastric tube, and a fluid IV.My husbands bowels stopped going,so enemas was given.Morphine needles was given also, but for the last 3 days a syringe driver was set up.This is a horrible disease, i hope the medical profession will soon find a cure for it.My sincere best wishes, love and hope, go out to all of you. From blins00

Dearest Blins00,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know it was a hard road to travel, but I know your husband was so thankful you were there to the end, and you did what you promised. God bless you for that. I can only imagine the pain you have lived through since that day in December, when you had to let your soulmate move on. I am glad however, that he no longer has to bear the pain of this disease.

My sincerest hopes for you to always remember the good times and get on with the remainder of your life. Even though this was a hugely tough experience, life overall is pretty darn great. Live it to its' fullest.

Best thoughts and hugs to you...................Scott

As I sit here reading your post my heart is just aching for you. My dad was just diagnoised with stage 4 stomach cancer and he has a large tumor that will not stop bleeding. Cancer has never touched me like this before. reading everyone's stories is just so touching and eventhough I don't know any of you I feel like we are all tied to each other.

Godspeed to you, I can feel how much you loved him. The only way I think I can make it through this is god, I don't know what else to do. You had many wonderful years with him and for that I know you are grateful. My prayers are with you and everyone here.

I am so sorry over the loss of your dear husband.  I too lost my husband to stomach cancer February 22, 2008. I miss him so and still can't believe he is gone.  He was a Viet Nam veteran and lived with stage IV for 3 years and was so brave, never complaining.  He too was my soulmate.  I have precious memories of my Mike but they are not enough.  There is such a void.  I sleep to dream of him but those dreams do not come.  Yet, I know he is happy, pain-free and just waiting for me.  We will be reunited ... I truly believe this in my heart and soul.  Til then may peace fill your heart.

Diane, Mike's wife
