Hi Scott,

I have read several of your posts and they are extremely touching. My dad has been diagnoised with stage 4 stomach cancer and he is not a candidate for surgery as it has mestasized (sorry I hope I spelled that right) he is now in the hospital starting his first week of chemo. He is also supposed to start raditation but the tumor is so large and it's bleeding they will not do radiation while it bleeds.

My dad is also anemic and keeps needing alot of blood. I worry that he will not be able to handle chemo and raditation because my dad is a very small man and always has been. He might weigh 130 maybe, I just wonder how much he will be able to handle and why want the tumor stop bleeding? your partner seemed to be unflappable during chemo I just do not know if my dad already so small can handle how much chemo he will need. Also, my dad has no health insurance did I mention that? he has a good oncologist seems like so far. As good as you might expect without insurance. We are trying to stay positive and pray I just got off the phone with him and he had the hiccups. I just had to hang up the phone it made me so sad. My mom is on her way up there I don't know if my father understands what is really going on. Thanks Scott!!

Thanks for that, I think my dad should be around 117 to maybe smaller. I just spoke with my mom she was at the hospital she said my dad is white as a ghost, the tumor will not stop bleeding. We are really concerned about the bleeding. I don't know what they are going to do if it want stop bleeding.

Hi Shanda, my mum weighed around 116 when she started chemo in Jan 08.  She now weighs only 88 after 20 cycles of treatment.  I'm not sure whether she will be able to continue with it, but her strong will has helped her get this far.  Best wishes, El.

When my husband was first diagnosed with Stage 4 Stomach cancer 7 years ago, he went from 220 lbs. to 160 lbs, during his first rounds of chemo.

After two recurrences since that time in which he lost very little weight, he now weighs 232 lbs.

Go to herbalhealer.com and read about the Essaic tea.  My hubby has been drinking this for the past seven years, and I actually started brewing the herbs rather than using the concentrate when I was diagnosed with a rare agressive uterine cancer in Sept. 2008.

Keep your faith and hope high!!  Miracles still happen.

In Christ's love,

Dearest Shanda,

I am so sorry to hear that your family has been hit by this terrible disease. I would think that the doctors would first have to get the bleeding under control before they can start chemo. All I can tell you, is that chemo for Rick has been an absolute blessing. They originally told us that when they couldn't remove his stomach, we were looking at about 6 months for the rest of his life. We have now crossed the two year mark in March and it has been a real blessing. Chemo has come so far in such a short amount of time really.

The fact that your Dad does not have insurance is terribly disturbing. I don't know where he lives, but I hope he can find someone to help without bankrupting him. I am glad to hear your Mom is on the way to be with him. It is a tough spot to be in for sure.

This will be a great resource for you and I am sure that someone can answer most questions you come across. I can only say that we have not yet experienced the issues your Dad is having. Someone else here I am confidant will come up with something.

Best thoughts and prayers to you and your family as you travel through the gauntlet of Gastric Cancer..................Scott

my mother is 71 years old she has stage 3  her tumors are bleeding she only weighs 94lbs, but she is strong willed and has so much faith is says she wont give up hope. I my self have faith and hope but myself mentally with everything and working 9horus a day and have a family sometimes i feel like i'm going crazy but i never let my family  or mom mother see it.  if we all prayer together and never give up hope we can pull  through. GOD BLESS  YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONE.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your response, they are filling out paperwork for my dad to get medicad I think. So far things have been going well at the hospital that he is in since he doesn't have insurance. I did tell my mom that I was very concerned of how good his care would be since he does not have insurance.

But, what do you do? he has to keep going and fight the good fight. You are so lucky to hit the two year mark. I hope that I can report back here with the same good news. Godspeed to you!!!!
