CyberKnife Testimonial

A testimonial:  I was diagnosed with HCC in January 2008.  I was 57 years old.  I had major portal vein invasion and my primary tumor was over 6 cm, all of which made me inegilble for resection or transplant.  My prognosis was not good.  I went through two very painful TACE procedures in 2008, and started on Nexavar.  The tumors remained active.  In January 2009 I underwent a CyberKinfe procedure at Baylor in Dallas.  I just had a follow-up MRI this week.  All of the cancer in my liver now appears on MRI to be dead or dying.  And the tumors have begun shrinking.  If the shinkage continues and the cancer remains inactive I may become eligible for the transplant at some point in the future.  To use a very tired old phrase, I now feel like I have a great deal of hope and a new lease on life.  I encourage anyone diagnosed with HCC who is not eligible for transplant or resection to ask about CyberKinfe.  It truly offers hope to the many of us stricked with this dread disease.

Andy,

I'm so happy to read about your good news. I have watched for your posts, as I have been reading these messages daily. It still gives me some peace, after losing my husband to liver cancer.

My husband also had Hep C and Cirhossis (sp?) and was quite far advanced when the mets to bone, broke his arm, and only then was dx.  Way too late for him.

I love to read about the success stories, so keep posting. You are an inspiration to all.

Connie

Andy,

Thank you for sharing your story. My husband had resection in July 2007 for HCC and so far cancer has not returned but doctor has said it probably will. He is not a good candidate for transplant so I am so encouraged to hear this option has been so helpful to you. It gives me more hope.

May your road continue to be uphill!

Liz

Hi Liz,

How is your husband doing?  Why was or is he not a transplant candidate and why did his docs tell you his cancer will probably return?  I am a liver cancer survivor and doing well.  I had a resection in Jan 2007 for a stage 1 encapsulated HCC.  Docs have no idea what caused the cancer as I had no risk factor other than being an artist and working in the studio.  Keep the faith.  It is great that it has been two years for your hubby with no recurrance.

Congratulations and I am so happy for you.  It is nice to have good news about something that will help to beat the dragon.
