Abnormal Pap, Colpo test negative for dysplasia

Hello,

I have been learning a lot from these message boards, and I know there are many helpful people around here, so I would like to ask you guys to help me make ther right decision.

I had my first ever Abnormal Pap Test on January of this year. The results were HGSIL.

I had a Colposcopy Test early this month and and these were the results:

Biopsy 1: benign cervical tisue and scant endocervical glands, negative for dysplasia, viral effect, and malignancy. Transformation zone not represented.

Biopsy 2:  Acute and chronic cervicitis with squasmous metaplasia, negative for dysplasia, viral effect, and malignancy.

My gyn says that I need to have the Leep done because there is too much discrepancy b/w the pap and the colpo test.  I'm scheduled for the Leep to be don on May 15.

After reading about the Leep and all its risks and and side effects, I am thinking it might not be necessary for me to go through it.  I would like to be treated for the cervicitis instead, since it is there anyway.  The doctor did not even mentioned it to me, but I got a copy from the lab results.  What do you guys think?  Thanks for all your help!!!

Fire your doctor, immediately! With those results from the biopsy, he should have sent you for a second opinion, redone the biopsy, or even dilated you to have a look inside the endocervical canal. I see one of the following scenarios.

1. The results got mixed up with somebody else, and you will have surgery a different woman should have gotten.

2. Your body's immune system is strong and cleared up the dysplasia.

3. There is something further up, and and standard LEEP could completely miss it.

4. The abnormal PAP smear was caused by cervicitis, and the doctor, per regulations, should be finding the cause of it and treating you appropriately. It could be gardenerella, trichamonia, candida, etc.

It sounds like he's just trying to make money.

When you see your new doctor,

1. Look at all of your lab reports.

2. Get a thorough explanation of what you actually have.

3. If you do have dysplasia and require surgery, get a full discussion of the risks, benefits, and possible future complications of all your treatment options - cryosurgery, laser, LEEP, and cold knife cone biopsy - before a recommendation. This is a requirement!

But cancel the LEEP and get another doctor, today.

Thanks for your quick response.  I agree with everything you say, and I guess I just needed to hear it from someone else.  Thanks again!!
