I am having my tumor removed via this procedure May 11th. I have been told to expect to be hospitalized for a minium of 5 days. I was wondering if anyone else has had this done and how recovery was for them?
Surgery for me is taking place 6 hours away from home, and I have 4 kids, so am choosing to stay AWAY from home for an additional week to give myself some more recovery time (seemed a better idea than expecting my 4 kids to let me rest much! :) )
So any input? How soon can I expect the pathology to come back?

HI Jen,
I think you have a good plan.
My husband ( retired, age 61, heart stent in Jan 2009, active and otherwise good health) had laproscopic surgery in July of 2008 to remove his left kidney, in addition, he had his small bowel resectioned at the same time. The kidney surgery was about was two hours and the bowel about two and a half. His surgery was performed four hours from home at a major east coast cancer center. He was in the hospital for six days and they told us he would have been out sooner if it had not been for the bowel surgery. We then stayed in a townhouse I rented for the time nearby for another two days. The townhouse made it possible for our daughter to come with her five month old infant and one of his closes friends to come. It also was more comfortable for him after the surgery than a hotel.
The trip home was tiring, but not too bad. Clutching a pillow on your lap while traveling helps. He recovered quickly at home and was back to his Cardiac wellness program (at a reduced exercise level) three weeks after he returned home.
Everyone's body is different but this is what he did and it worked well. I will be thinking about you.
