hello all, my name is mike, i was diagnosed and treated for colon cancer from april '07 until december '07. december was my final day for chemo. after my last treatment, my hands and feet developed neuropathy somewhat severely. so severely that it has been difficult to walk and function almost every since. the only thing that seems to help me be functional are high doses of oxycontin three to four times a day (by high dose im talking in the range of 75mg to 90mg. i have actually taken more than that but discovered it doesnt do anything different than the 75-90.
in seeing my latest pain doctor (i had to find another because i moved due to my situation) i have tried all sorts of other medications at there guidance. ive tried accupuncture and have thought about an implant. im not crazy about the implant due to the fact they have to involve my back.
anyway, the doctor will not listen to me when i tell him what works. they tell me they are afraid ill become addicted and i want an extremely hi dose. i have a very hi tolerance for drugs and know what works and what hasnt. im tired of experimenting and being in pain when there is something that will at least knock the edge off so i can function. my question to anyone out there; has anyone else experienced severe neuropathy from their chemo and what did they find to ease their pain.
thanks,
michael
