We are back on sutent for the past 2 wks. it has been off and on for th last 4 mo. My husband had a blood test last week and his thyroid is hypo and he was put on synthroid.anyone else have this? He also is having trouble sleeping the ambian isn't working so Dr. gave rameron. (spelling?)

He took it 1 night and it made him feel like a zombie all the next day he refuses to take it again.

Any suggestions would be helpful

Thank

Hello Princess,

I just wanted to let you know that my father also developed hypo thyroid while on sutent and he also takes the same medication to treat it. Has worked for him he had to adjust the dose a few times, however the thyroid function test are now in check.

As for the sleeping issue, maybe instead of a sleeping aid. Maybe try anti-depressant. My father also takes one of those. He seems to be more relaxed now. Does your hubby take naps? Maybe its to many. Please let us know how things are.

Thinking about you and all the warriors on this site.

A Friend Wendy

Hypothyroidism is a common side effect of Sutent. About 2 months after I started on Sutent the blood tests showed my TSH to be low. I started taking Levothyroxin at 100 mg once a day since then the dosage has changed twice and I am now at 150 mg. It is one of the reasons that I have blood tests every 2 weeks ,as I was reading the posts today My Onc.’s office called to tell me that my latest blood test showed  the TSH level was low I will repeat the test Friday and I expect the dose to go up again. It is just one of the changes at least there are no side effects to hypothyroidism as long as you take the hormone replacement. Hypothyroidism is also a common medical problem on its own and there are probably millions taking thyroid replacement hormones.

I also take Ambian some times it works sometimes it dose not help much I think it depends a lot on why you can’t sleep, my PCP offered to put me on Zoloft I decided against it, I don’t want to add more drugs with more side affects I would rather just read.

Peace,

Tommy
