Hiccups

My husband has been battling RCC stage IV for 3 years now. They have him on Torisel 25 mg every week now. He is having real bad side effects with hiccups they gave him some medicince which makes him sleep. We are having some trouble with that as he only has one kidney left and if he is sleeping alot he cannot get enough liquids down to keep his kidney flushed from all the chemo. Any suggestions out there? They did a cat scan and the torisel has shrank the tumors in his lung.

 One day at a time.

Hi - my husband had very, very bad hiccups - from the chemo - and what finally worked is a drug called Baclofen.  I believe it's a muscle relaxer and he was able to function fairly well; it didn't make him drowsy.

 God bless and good luck,

Georgette

Dear SC ;

You may try the below three options and hopefully it will help to do away the hiccups for your husband .

1) boil some ginger and drink it slowly when it is hot . ( you may add some sugar , so that it is easy for him to drink )

2) put a tea-spoon of sand sugar to mouth and let it slowly melt and swallow it . ( it works for most of the hiccups )

3) Fresh lemon juice mix with frest ginger water ( juice ) and add hot water . Then, drink it slowly . ( or, if you may add honey , but, pls do not use hot water, if add with honey )

During my chemo with Taxol + Carboplatin, Option (1) works well with me .

As for my current chemo with Alimta + Cisplatin . Option (1) not working, so I try on option (2) , it works for the first cycle .

Then, on 2nd cycle , option (2) is not working and I try option (3) and it works .

Hopefully , either one of the options will work for me in my coming chemo by next week .

Please do let me know if it works for your husband

Note : Doctor did give me some medicine for hiccups, but, it help me for few hours only . So , I stop taking it .
