Lack of insurance (General)

I have prostate cancer and I have been posting on that board but decided to come over here and what I am reading is shocking but hardly surprising.

We face in this nation a health care system that is so broken that without significant changes, the heartbreak stories will become even more prevalant.

You have all heard the number---50 million Americans uninsured but its even worse than that. There are countless millions on top of that who have inadequate insurance. And try to buy insurance with a pre-existing condition. Each state does have at least one plan that one must convert from another another plan within 60 days to be covered and (walah!) all pre-existing conditions are covered. However, the downside is the cost (ranges between $7,000-$14,000 per annum per individual AND its not the best plan money can buy). Other plans may be offered at similar costs that don't require 60 day rollover but the pre-existing conditions don't begin to be covered for a period of 12-18 months.

We desperatly need national health care. While President Obama has certainly put this (thankfully) at the TOP of his agenda, in recent weeks, he has begun to waffle around a bit inorder to make any plan more acceptable to the far right.

I truly believe that the costs of national health care can be contained if the ENTIRE medical system is changed, which would include limiting law suits (Obama is leaning in that direction). Furthermore, a uniform plan would ease the spiralling costs to employers and would more than compensate for any possible tax increases.

I know many of us are prsentently ill and many of us are being confronted right now by this issue. However, a few well written words to your congressperson and senators (especially if they are Republican) can never hurt. We have to let our leaders know that our lives depend on quality and affordable health care. Furthermore, a national heath care program would allow our American companies to lower/stabilze these huge costs and make our products more competitive. President Obama knows this---we need all of our leaders to know this.

This is NOT a political advertisement.I am just an individual who is fed up with a system where only the rich and the very poor (and that is ebbing downward as Medicaid funding continues to narrow) can obtain quality health care.

Sincerely,

 Joe

I am also fed up with the healthcare system, my husband has metastatic colon cancer he maxed out his railroad health insurance and now he is stuck with the, they will pay 70% of his medical which is a huge chunk of chang for us to come up with when you consider what the cost of chemo is?

Our portion would be 2400 per month, We ar average American people who do not have medicare, and I am thinking thats just the chemo that is not the Dr. visits the other testing etc. and we are lucky to have any insurance.

I am disgusted with the healthcare system the way people have to sell off there life to get a Dr. visit. it is insane,  Yes call your congressman call anyone and plead to them We Americans are broke and need to be fixed.

Good Afternoon Joe;

I am just an individual who is fed up with a system where only the rich and the very poor can obtain quality health care.

Find comfort in knowing that God has a special place reserved in Hell for insurance company executives!

I share your feelings and frustration. Something has got to give. We recently had our primary elections in a city with approx. 60,000 people. Only approx. 18,000 voted! We get what we deserve.

Take care;

Kevin

Good Afternoon Linda;

Yes call your congressman, call anyone and plead to them We Americans are broke and need to be fixed.

In case you aren't aware, they have LIFETIME health care. AT OUR EXPENSE!

My suggestion would be to vote them all out! Every last one of them! And the new group coming in should have to be on the same health care as the rest of America. The same goes for their retirement plan. Are you aware they aren't in Social Security? They have their own plan. FULL SALARY FOR LIFE! Where can I get a job like that?

Take care;

Kevin
