Hello Jayne,

My name is Laura, am 21 and I am a cancer survivor of Hodgkin's. I was 19 when diagnosed, staged 2, went through 12 treatments of ABVD and am now in remission coming up on 2 years. I went through the whole process of nausea, am still fatigue to this day, lost my hair(by the way I loved it when it first grew back), really looked sick and now I am getting stronger and healthier each and every day. Your daughter will get through this! Hang in there, and if you need to vent, talk or have any ?'s please feel free to e-mail me at lauramellis@aol.com. I would also love to be able to talk with your daughter as well. Keep a positive attitude and outlook...that is key!! You are in my prayers! Look forward to hearing from you. Take care and God Bless!

My son was just diagonsed with hodgkins disease. He is 19 years old and in his 3rd year of college. We go to the oncologist on wed. We are all scared! We understand from the surgeon that removed the lymph node under his arm that it was found very early. What can we expect?

After I was diagnosed things were rolling pretty quickly. I had a CT and PET scan, bone marrow biopsy, pulmonary function test, muga scan....So much is probably going through your head at this time. I would write down any questions that come to mind and then just start asking when you see the oncologist. Your son will also get staged depending on where the cancer is located. His oncologist should tell him what is the planned treatment for him. It all happened very quickly for me. I was diagnosed on July 15, 2003...had all the scans, tests and met my oncologist within the next 2 weeks and had started treatment on August 1, 2003. Feel free to e-mail me at lauramellis@aol.com. I would also love to be able to share my story with your son and help him as he is going through this. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Take care and God Bless!! :o)

I read about your 19 yearold son with this disease, my 16 yr old was diagnosed in august. We live in ny and are being treated at sloan kettering, she is in a stage 3b, she did 4 rounds of beacopp a very intense chemo treatment and after a pet scan she is in an early remission. We now need 2 more rounds of abvd and 14 sessions of radiation. Please feel free to ask me anything, at first i could not eat or sleep and i was throwing up a lot, it is horrible watching her suffer through the treatments she was hospitalized 3 times. Please e mail me

I'm curious about the staging. We have not been staged yet. We go Monday morning for a CT scan and get the results on Thursday. The doctor is looking at 6 weeks of radiation 5 days a week. The doctor is calling this nodular lympocyte predominant. Ever heard of that? He said he really doesn't believe it has spread anywhere but I'm grateful he is doing test to make sure it hasn't. My son has not experienced any of the symptoms that seem to go with this dreadful disease. Did your daughter have any of those symptoms? I know you are glad she is in early remission. Hopefully, things will keep improving for her. How did they decide on chemo for her and not radiation? Thanks

my daughter had alot of the symptoms the fevers loosing weight and epstein barr, she had sweats at night. her glands were also swolen 5 oncologsts in florida could not diagnose her, since i am from ny i came for an poinion and got a diagnosis too. we decided to stay in ny the medical care is better here, the staging comes from the location on your body. stage 1 and2 are above your abdomen. stage 1 is only one area. stage 3 and 4 are beloe the abdomen and stage 4 is in the sacrum or bone and bone marrow. the b comes from her having symptoms. at sloan ketteriong and columbia in ny for a stage 3 or 4 they do 4 rounds of beacopp. alot of other hospitals just do the advd. now she needs 2 rounds of abvd because of her early remission and 14 sessions or 3 weeks minus a day of radiation.radiation is everyday 5 times a week. boys get longer radiation than girls, Columbia said no radiation but 4 more chemo cycles of abvd copp. we went with sloan and are doing two more rounds with the radiation. my daughter had a thin mass in her chest, the worst is not knowing which stage or treatment. you will be o.k. it is a nightmare but will get through it.i lost so much weight and needed tranquilizers. where are you getting treated that is good that your dr wants to know trhe extent of the disease before treating him. we are going monday for her next round. a long day . please let me know about the scans and you can e mail me directly it is eazier i am --- Message edited by CancerCompass staff: for personal protection, email address removed. I just want to thank you Jayne for replying to my messages. You really gave me information about the staging. I am so nervous about this ct scan on Monday. I picked the medicine up yesterday and sat in the parking lot of the hospital and cried. I just pray this cancer is nowhere else in his body. He is holding up pretty well but i think it is all a front so mama won't get so worried. Know what i mean? Thank you have a blessed weekend.

we are definitely learning patience with all this. We had the scan and will not get the results until Thursday at 2:30. Do you ever find yourself panicking over small things? My son woke up this morning and said he felt like he had a fever. I almost fell apart. I just don't want him to get sick with a cold or the flu. Oh, about the flu? Did your daughter get any kind of vaccinations? I should ask the doctor on Thursday if my son should. Thank The Lord he didn't have a fever. 98.6! yippee! I used to never worry about stuff like that now I'm finding I am concerned about everything he eats and what he does. I'm not showing my worriness to him but behind my closed doors, I fall apart. Thank you for keeping in touch with me. It really helps to have someone to communicate with that is going thru the same thing.
