administration of chemo

My husband has high grade CIS, and has recently had surgery on his ureter and renal pelvis.  Due to the fact that he has only one kidney, the surgeon was not able to remove his kidney.  He has prescribed  a course of bcg and has discussed putting in a port (or a stent) to receive the bcg.  Is that done, or is it always administered through the bladder? How painful is the administration of bcg?
