Anyone in my situation?

I was diagnosed March 10, 2009 with kidney cancer on the right kidney. It was removed. Stage IV, T4, M0, N0. I do not have cancer anywhere else (according to all the scans, biopsies, etc. I've had since). I started Sutent today.

I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in my situation where currently you appear to be cancer-free but taking Sutent. I can't seem to find anything in the literature (I'm a librarian) about my particular situation. Most studies are about people who have kidney cancer elsewhere as well.

Emily,

I would assume that this is more of a precaution by your doctor. Please keep up the fight and do all you can. Medication, food, and support. WE are all here for each other.God Bless

Hello,

I have stage 3B 2-years ago (removed left kidney)and just in March at another CT check up they found a spot in my lung (lower left Lobe .8CM) and I had the lobe removed.I have no other areas of cancer since my last CT in April. I had the lobe removed April 20th (which came back positive) and the cancer is now stage 4 because it went to another organ. I have been told to go on Sutent also as a preventative for 2 years. I did not do this 2 years ago and look what happened. Get on the clinical trial. Sutent is very expensive if you do not have insurance. Lucky for me I do so far. I am getting a 2nd opinion at Froeter in Milwaukee as I live in Appleton, WI. So far this is my only option unless I go the IV treatment which is very harsh to the body and can cause heart attack. I will go to Sutent at a low dose just to be safe.

I have heard of many side effects but everyone is different. I look at it this way, What do I have to lose? This cancer can come back in the lungs again and let me tell you the recovery is painful. Let me know the dose the doctor is looking at. I am looking at the lowest at this time.

I will let you know what my next doctor says later this week. Froeter is a Medical schools and a very good cancer center.

Regards,

Mike

Damon, Thanks. I need the support. My family helps but they just don't know all the feelings that are going through me and all the worry. It's helpful to have a support group. Emily

Emily,

I think I can list all the emtions and then some. The one thing to do is cherish everyday and smell the roses. Each day offers something new to see or learn. It is real hard to express to loved ones how you feel becuase that phrase always come to mind, "Only if you were in my shoes then you would know how I feel". Of course I would never want anyone to me in my shoes. If ever in need a drop a line even though I am hlafway around the world support is never far. God bless

Damon, I certainly appreciate it and know exactly what you are talking about! I don't want anyone else to go through what I've been through the last couple of months either! I have an 11-year-old and I want to see him grow up and supply me with lots of grandchildren. No time for cancer! It's interesting how this experience does make you see so much in different ways. I thank God that He has given me so much. Emily
