My husband is 65 and was diagnosed 31/12/03 ,he was 17 stone and had a pain in his side which Drs kept saying was a pulled muscle.Eventually after several visits he was given a blood test and rushed into hospital for a bone marrow biopsy and transfusion. He has since had his spleen removed ,was on Thalidomide for over a year and is now awaiting a bone marrow transplant. He has transfusions every two weeks and we have had a lot of other problems on our way to this .He is now 11 stone and in tremendous pain ,luckily his sister was a doner for him and is going into hospital next week to donate for him .Do we have anyone out there who has had a transplant recently with any advice ?

My husband also has been struggling with this disease but if it will help I have found that only three hospitals in the world are truly up to date with this rare type, and they are one in Europe, one in Texas, and one at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland. Give them a try.
