Can someone please tell me does lots of women relapse from triple negative breast cancer after 5 years. I have read online that women with this type of breast cancer will relapse faster than women who have other types of breast cancers. I have never heard of anyone relapsing from triple negative breast cancer after 5 years. I have heard if you make it to the 5th year then you are pretty much considered cured. Do you know of anyone with this type of breast cancer who has relapsed after 5 years and rather this information is true or not?

My sister had triple negative br. cancer in 2002. She was diagnosed with mets to the bone in Jan 09, although now that I have read about her type of cancer, she was having symptoms of bone mets five years ago, which her Dr. called arthritis or fibromyalgia. Very frustrating that she was not diagnosed sooner, as her mets are very widespread at this point.

I was diagnoised in 1998 (age 42) and have been "cancer free" since. I don't know if I'll ever consider myself cured but it sure feels good to get the all clear every year. :) Hang in there...be viligent in your healthcare and enjoy your life.
