Seed therapy but having problems with previous radiation therapy

My husband had testicular cancer 25 years ago and was treated with surgery and external radiation treatments.  For the past several years has had spastic colon and problems controlling bowel.  Diagnosed with prostate cancer 2008 and is soon having seed therapy.  Will this also effect bowel?  MRI shows Lumbar and Sacral spine is compressing and bone marrow is converting back to red cells.  One Urologist told our daughter that he is not a candidate for more radiation treatment.  Any one have experience with this, or have an opinion.

I had external bean readiation in 2005 and my side effects regarding bowel problems were rectal bleeding 8 months after the treatment. Afterwards your bowel control isn't as good as it was prior to treatment. However, I found a french abstract that treated it with Carafate suspension enemas and it was effective. With your husbands past problems and radiation, I would agree with Urologist that he is not a candidate for any more radiation. The seed implants cause bowel problems and rectal bleeding.

Hope this helps

Dan

I agree that anyone with bowel issues should be very circumspect about seed or radiation treatment, which has the potential to cause problems even under normal conditions.

Certain hospitals have hyperbaric treatment available for some kinds of radiation damage.
