HGSIL (CIN III)....LEEP on Friday

Okay I really know that I shouldn't be on here because it just worries me more but it feels nice to talk about this with other women that understand the situation. Here's mine:

I went in for severe abdominal and lower back pain 2 weeks ago. They couldn't figure out what it was. They said I might have kidney stones but nothing showed up on the xray. They wanted to do a pelvic exam with a PAP just to rule anything else out. Turns out my PAP came back abnormal with high grade pre-cancer cells. I had a colposcopy with biopsy done last Tuesday and the results came back HGSIL no cancer. That was a relief and now I have a LEEP procedure done on Friday. I wasn't too worried except for the fact that I have a 2 and 3 year old and not lifting them will be VERY hard. However after reading through the message boards (the reason I shouldn't be on here), is there a possibility that it still may be cervical cancer? I wasn't under the impression that I would be waiting for any results. I thought my OBGYN would do the procedure and then I would have another PAP in 3 months. I will ask all of these questions to my doc but since I still have another 2 days until I go I was looking for other womens advice or stories on situation.

Thanks for any advice, stories, or reassurance :)

I realize you probably already had the LEEP, but your doctor was required to explain all of this to you. I think you should get a different doctor for your follow up.

In addition, did you

1. Look at the lab repot?

2. Get a thorough explanation of what you had, where it was located, how many cervical quadrants were involved, if dysplasia was in the endocervical canal, and if dysplasia was in the endocervical glands? That would have determined if you should have had LEEP or cold knife.

3. Get an in-depth discussion of the risks and benefits of all your treatment options - cryosurgery, laser, LEEP,  and cold knife cone biopsy - before a recommendation? This is a requirement.

If you answer no to even one question, then definitely get a different doctor.

In the meantime, I hope the margins are clean for you.

Yes, had my LEEP this morning and doing good. Not as bad as most of these message boards say. In fact I feel no pain just kinda of sore. Of course I realize that the effects may occur in a few days (or so I've read). I am going to get a new doctor. My results weren't explained. In fact before I had the procedure I asked what it meant if my results didn't come back clear and she said either way PAP in 6 months. So basically nothing else to be done. Is that true for the rest of you?

I'm glad you're getting a new doctor. She did not follow regulations, and therefore, should not be trusted, again. I am sorry she did all of this to you.

She is also supposed to do a follow-up PAP smear three or four months, later, not six months out. In addition, if the margins are not clear, she needs to go over that with you. (I definitely hope the margins are clear.)

Regardless, because she did not explain this to you, I definitely think you need to look at the lab report from the biopsy/ECC and find out what was actually going on.
