Hi has anyone had any experience with the new trial for Pca , which is sutent (sunitinib). It has been proven to be very good in kidney cancer but the trials have now been extended to other cancers . My husband is HRPC , and it has now spread to his lymph glands , liver , bones and lungs . He is about to start on a trial of this drug ( last hope ) and i wondered if any one had any positive results back fron this drug . Thank you Lynne

Is this drug a chemo therapy? My dad has advance PC that's spread to his bones, nothing in his vital organs, yet. His most recent PSA is now at 1000.His oncologist has stopped hormone therapy recommending chemo/radiation and pallative care/hospice. Chemo at his age (75) and in his condition ( very weak and lost an alarming amount of weight/wasting) we believe will kill him and besides,he's suffering enough.I don't want to give up hope, but it looks to us (the family) that he is going to pass soon. At this point he is just existing trying to manage the pain. I HATE this disease!!!  Cindy

Hi Cindy , No this drug has nothing to do with chemo its just a tablet , but unfortunately one of the requirements for the trial is that you have to have had chemo . I really feel for you and your family , but please dont give up , if they can get the pain under control your dad could still have some quality of life . I know what you meen about hating the dam cancer , me to . If this drug doesn't work for my husband i know he has reached the end of the road but i'll be fighting all the way for him . Good luck
with your dad , you could also ask if there is any suitable trials for him to go on ..
Take care
Lynne x

Virtual Hug for both of you

My husband started Taxotere Chemotherapy last week - he is only 51 diagnosed at 50 with a Gleason 9 and is now HRPC - we had hoped to get into one of the trials but one wasn't starting until June which would mean the PSA would just keep going up.  Were hoping a few course of chemo will check the cancer and his quality of life will be better for what remains.  Cancer Sucks. Lots of trials out there - so thanks for taking part if they don't help us they will help the next person down the line.
