What after LEEP?!?! Need advice PLEASE!

I had my LEEP yesterday (which was not at all as scary or painful as the stories on this site...thankfully) but I am confused. I was diagnosed with HGSIL in zone 6 and 2. Doc went through and removed as much as she could with that procedure and when I asked her what was next she said we wait for the results to find out if area is clear. Then? Doc said if area is clear I am good to go till my next PAP in 6 months. If not? Doc said I am still good to go till my next PAP in 6 months. She said that the LEEP procedure basically kills all the high grade cells in the affected area and around it so they won't spread. That doesn't seem right to me! Do NOTHING for 6 months even if the results don't come back clear!?!?! NEED ADVICE FROM THOSE OF YOU HAVE GONE THROUGH THIS....PLEASE!

I know its tough and frustrating to think that you will have to wait 6 months if your results come back negative. I have not had an LEEP nor do I know if i am a candidate for it. I'm still waiting to have my first colposcopy this week. But I will say that I asked my dr what if my results come back negative, whats next for my routine follow-ups? She told me that she would want to check me every 3-4 months for a yr or so and then if everything comes back negative only then can I space out my routine exams for every 6 months and then a yr. Hope this helps.

Do u have any advice on a colposcopy procedure?

I have to be honest, neither procedure was bad. I had a little more cramping (nothing more than menstrual)after the colposcopy and I was sore when I sat down just the night of. Other than that, nothing. And I've had no side effects from the LEEP, not even cramping. I read through so many posts on this site and they terrified me more than the actual procedure. Take some ibuprofen about an hour before the colpsocopy. Other than, I think my monthly periods are more painful.

Hi Silla,

I've had both a colposopy and a LEEP this past month and both were very easy.In fact I felt nothing during or after the coposcopy (I didn't even know the doctor had done it until he was done and told me he was done lol).  The LEEP was also very painless. I didn't take the painkillers i was given because I didn't have any pain. Just some slight tenderness in my abdomen.

I hope that helps :-)

I'm glad you're firing that doctor. She is not giving you truthful information. Surgery is supposed to remove the abnormal tissue, but it doesn't kill the virus. But you can take care of that through alternative medicine; working with a professional is best.

In addition, from what I read, she should be doing a follow-up PAP smear within three of four months. She seems a little too flippant about this.

Re: Silla, know your pain level and have it respected. If you have a low pain tolerance, demand a block. For me, it was only uncomfortable but not excrutiating. But I made it clear to the doctor I have a low pain tolerance, and her face was directly within kicking range. She was very careful, as you can imagine. The doctor either needs to be very careful to not cause you too much discomfort or give you a block. If your doctor needed a biopsy done, I'd be curious to know what said individual would do.
