I am writing to see if anyone can shed light on Kidney Cancer biopsy's?  5 days ago I had a biopsy for my KC, they took 5 biopsy's of the site, on the 4th attempt, the doctor or technician who was doing the biopsy missed the site and hit a nerve, I had extreme pain, for 4 hours straight the pain was intense, now 5 days later, the area that the biopsy was taken is still very tender, could it be because the area bruises?  I don't know anything about this stuff, all I know is without pain pills, its hard to even get out of bed in the morning, I am so depressed, I will not see my oncologist/surgeon until May 28th, so I just wanted to know if anyone out there could help me with my question, Should the area still be tender after 5 days?  Thank you.

Hi

You didn't say what type of biopsy you had. Was it needle core, aspirational, excisional ? The small ones are usually not too bad, but are you running a temp., swelling? I would think the place you had it done must have an emergency on call person (solid tumor fellow) you can contact after hours for advise.

If I was having some problems, I would start there and call the hospital.

Good luck and God Bless

Krys

P.S. Don't be depressed. I went through depression as well. Be strong to survive.

Thank you for answering back, it was a needle biopsy, don't know what else i can say about it as I am new to this stuff myself, all I know is that it was a long needle, I was turned away from it, that went into my kidney, and then I would hear a "clamping sound" and the needle would be taken out, they did this 5 times, but on the 4th time, they hit a nerve and the pain was horrible, I have had no swelling, fever anything like that, just very sore, tender, and this is almost the sixth day after having it done. any help would be appreciated. thank you

Hello,

I just wanted to ask why did your doctor order biopsy?  I read that if there is a suspicion of kidney cancer, most doctors do not recommend biopsies and do the surgery instead to remove tye tumor.  If your pain is not sharp, than it should ease gradually.  They inserted the needle so many times, that it must be normal to feel some pain, but you should call your doctor if it doesn't get better.

Hope everything goes well

NO, there should have been virtually no pain after a few hours. I have had several CT guided biopsies since my original RCC was discovered, although never to the original kidney tumor. All of the CT guided biopsies have been for Mets to the lungs or lymph nodes there was very little pain after the locals wore off. The fact that they hit a nerve and tried 5 sounds like a botched job to me, if it were me ,and I admit I am very aggressive when it comes to treatment. I would call the prescribing DR’s office and inform them that I will be arriving as soon as I could get there to see the DR and I would not let anyone blow me off! If for some reason that is not possible get go to the ER. There is something wrong. I apologize in advance for being so blunt but the pain you indicate sounds very serious. I also agree with Sitora.

I wish you luck and will remember you in my prayers tonight.

I had a biopsy of tumor on my left kidney.  Several samples were taken.  It was about a 1/2 hr procedure.  There was no pain after.  Not even tenderness.

I agree with previous responder.  Call the DR.
