Kidney cancer has spread to liver.Is there any hope.

My father was diagnosed less than two weeks ago with a kidney tumor which is in an advanced stage and has grown into the liver.The doctor who diagnosed him told us that surgery was'nt an option and that cimotherapy would'nt work either.We are all devestated at this news and feel that we cant give up on him.Has anybody out there ever had any experience of this and was there any treatments offered.All and any advice would be a big help to us (good or bad news).We just need to be sure that we are not giving up prematurely.

Check out the clinicaltrials.gov for more info.  I am surprised nowaday a lot of doctors gave up on patients.  Why don't you call UCLA or City of Hope of MCAnderson to see the doctor could talk to you regarding about your Dad's case?  Maybe nearby big medical school  dept for more ino...  Some of the doctors out there do like challengs and they would take your Dad in but he got to be able to travel...??

It seems like your dad's cancer is in a very advanced stage.  Surgery wouldn't help at this point, but there are still some drugs that might help him.  Torisel is one, and some people get good mileage out of Sutent or Nexavar.  In my husband's case his kidney cancer had spread to both lungs (more than 30 tumors in the lungs), and Torisel literally saved his life and gave him 8 good months.  The Torisel finally stopped working, but he's on Sutent now and doing fairly well.  Still has good quality of life despite some horrible side effects.

Your dad's overall prognosis is very poor, but depending on his overall health and attitude, he might be able to get some good mileage out of some of the medicines that are currently available.

I would also look into the drug Afinitor which was just approved. This is supposed to be a fantastic new drug and is used when Sutent and Nexavar have failed.

First let me say good luck, and when I saw that is that I mean Kidney cancer is a fast mover and spread quickly, I know my mom was diagonsed in Dec with stage 4 it spread to her pelvic bone had radation 10 treatments and on March 25 we found out it spread to her brain with lots of problems with fluid building up and needles to say she passed away May 2, so no matter what never give up and love your father and be with them as much as possible.

I hope your outcome is a good one :)  But remember is a evil disease and we need a cure and soon and fast.

Last october i found out that i have rcc,a tumor in the left kidney,liver (3inches in size ),with two satellites and also 6 small nodes in both of my lungs.I have being taking sutent 50 mgi am now in my six cicle.and the cancer tumors have not spread,further more .the one in the kidney and the large one in the liver are showing signs of necropsis,i will be going again in two weeks  for mri and c scan,i keep my hopes high and enjoymy every  life in the meantime there is never a bad day,you could also ask your md of all the other options,oncolityc,optim interloukin and others.RegardsJose m
