I am 44 years old...I have a 3 children and one of them is 4 years old. I am trying to understand what this disease is and what I need to do to stay healthy.  Nobody seems to know how you get it and how to treat it for a long term life.  My research noted that it has a 10 year life span. Does anybody else know otherwise. We need to get more research done on this...and we have to be the one's to make it happen.  Where do we start and let all band together to fight for our lives.

Hello,

Well I know what you are going thru as I was told by my Dr that I had Leukemia in Dec 2007.  Now just finished my second round of Chemo  as I have CLL and it took a year to progress aggressively.

Tons of Cancer information is out here. You just need to start researching what fits for you and your specific kind of cancer.   Once I knew my exact type of cancerous cells, I found that I could zero in on certain sites that contained excellent information. I found there is no silver bullet or one mere source you can go to fill the answers you need. As you will be dealing with emotions, job, mortality, hope, science, natural solutions, depression, tears and wanting it all to go away.  But just remember you are not alone as you will discover.

Do not panic about about the 10 year thing. When I first searched it said 8 yrs but I was diagnosed with LGL in 2000. Other than having to watch out for infections and avoid exposure to colds and flu I have been asymptomtic since then. When I was diagnosed I was told that my past lab reports indicated I had had the disease for 4 yrs before diagnosis.

Hi and thank you so much for responding.  Do you mind if I ask you how old you are? What are you doing to deal with this disease?

Hi,

Sorry for the slow response. I am 61 now. Mainly I try to eat a healthy diet and avoid crowded places, especially during flu season. I do not go the the movies or theatre anymore and I shop during early mornings during Christmas to avoid exposure to large numbers of folks in enclosed settings.

I still work full time, but I try to keep stress low.

I did have some issues with borderline anemia for a couple of years, but have managed to resolve that with diet and exercisse. I have never been on any medication or treatment.

Pat
