intercourse after prostate cancer treatment

Has anyone experienced problems in his arena? Needless to say prostate cancer does major damage to a mans libido and the erectile dysfunction after radiation doesn't help "get things going" Its been over 2 YEARS since hormones were used to further treat the cancer,

When does the testosterone levels return to normal?

Am I "jumping the gun" suggesting that intercourse could be resumed after 3 years post treatment.

My husband is 51 yrs old and continues to experience urinary frequency/urgency.  Is erection possible with urinary involvement?

He does complain of intermittent pain at the base of the penis. Scarring perhaps but could this cause discomfort during intercourse?

Any input and advice would be appreciated.

Usually it takes anywhere from 30 to 90 days after the hormone treatmnent expires for you to begin to start producing testosterine. However 20 percent never start again. I would suggest a blood test to see what his testosterine level is at. If he is one of the 20 percent there is testosterine in a gel that he could apply, but most doctors don't like to prescribe it, since it may grow the cancer. without knowing more about his initial diagnoses, PSA, Gleason and stage its hard to comment.

As far as his pain, frequency/ urges to urinate, I would see an Urologist to see whats going on. What type of radiation did he have? How long was he on hormone therapy?

what has been his post Treatment PSA numbers?

Jumping the gun"   No

Is erection possible"  Yes

Discomfort during intercourse" It's possible, but only one way to find out.

Input" As suggested have hormone levels checked.  Seek some advice and communicate : where there's will there's a way, where there are TWO wills there's a certainty.

There are many things to try in coping with ED, including implants should  the more conservative approaches have limited success.

It is a shame that most drs are prejudiced against prescribing testosterone supplementation to men that are diagosed wth and treated for PCa!

This is based on the suspicion that the cancer will feed on the T. There are getting to be studies refuting this but the old model of PCa and the useage of surgical or chemical castration to attempt to quech the cancer still prevail.

I had a radical prostatectomy  18 years ago. I retain some erectile function and had almost no incontinence problem.

The erections dropped to about 75% of before op within 9 mos or so. By the time I was 80 intromisssion was impossible so we have settled on mutual masturbation with caresses, and with gratifying results. Unfortunately orgasms are much lessened with the removal of the prosate.

I would presume that if I were to get T prescribed and use viagra or cialis more useable erections would result- but am leery of the Viagra.
