Bad doctor experience. See a specialist!!

I have had abnormal paps for about 2 years now and I have been seeing my general doctor- whom is also certified in gynecology. Big mistake- this women has been doing my pap smears and colposcopies for the past two years with not much experience apparently.

Four months ago I went in for a colposcopy-she didn't even take a biopsy, she said everything was fine and that I could go back to coming in for yearly paps. A week later I get a call from her saying that she wants to refer me to an oncologist!!!

So I went to the oncologist who specializes in women's cancers, he was very nice, experienced. AND now I realized for the first time that paps and colposcopies are relatively pain free. My general doctor had me with my legs open for over an hour and bleeding all over the floor when she was taking biopsies and kept "missing".

I am very happy with my new SPECIALIST. He knows what he is doing and I feel like my health is under good control now.

Ladies, I really truly advise you to make sure that you doctor is experienced and that he/she gives you the information that you deserve and need to get through these uncomfortable and tough times.

I'm sorry you have been put through this. I had the opposite problem. My case wasn't very extensive, but the OB/GYN wanted to make money, so she pushed LEEP on me. The doctor after her botched the surgery, and I have been in chronic pain since then. The surgery happened in November 2007. The now-ex-doctor refuses to tell me what happened because he thinks I'm going to sue him. Truthfully, I just want to get well, and if he would tell me the truth my doctor and I could focus on the cause of my chronic pain rather than addressing symptoms.

It is absolutely critical for women to fully research their conditions, all of their options, their doctors, and those doctors' clinics. Frighteningly, just because doctors look at cervices and lab reports doesn't mean they know what is best, or worse stil, it doesn't mean they'll do what's best.

Sadly, I have met too many who had such faith in the decisions of their doctors and then found out the doctors had mishandled their cases.

That's terrible. Have you tried seeing a different specialist and explaining what happened? I can't imagine what you're going through, but I really think you should take action and try to get yourself feeling better. The chronic pain could lead to something more serious in the future.

Patbear, I finally found an out-of-network doctor who does not work with an insurance carrier. He diagnosed the right vaginal as pulled and irritated and my pudendal nerve as inflamed. I'm working with a licensed acupunturist/herbologist to not only boost my immune system, but to heal the inflamation. The tricky part is working around my metal allergies. However, even my doctor agrees alternative medicine is the route to go for the inflamation.

After a bad experience with an in-network doctor I hoped would work in conjunction with the out-of-network doctor, (She was trying to protect the doctor who botched the LEEP and was openly hostile to me. I don't believe she ever intended to help me.) I decided to reread every piece of documentation I had, which included bills. I learned I was given sutures, but they weren't on the OR report, and believe me, the OR report was horrifying enough. I notified the hospital. Not even the risk staff could get the doctor to talk. I still don't know what body part got stitches. So, I turned him into the medical board. The official I spoke to said the board was very interested in this, and he walked me through the forms.

I hope the ex-doctor who botched the LEEP is boo-hoo crying, right now. I never had any intention of suing, and I still don't want to, even though my cervix is grotesquely disfigured. Yet, I want the doctor reprimanded by the medical board so that he doesn't do this, again, to somebody else, if he hasn't already. So, I'm not going to stop until that happens. But it's sad the only doctor who wants me to finally get well is the out-of-network doctor.

As you can imagine, I no longer trust doctors unless I have researched them, as well as their clinics. Every time my doctor tells me something, I have to research it because my ability to trust has been so thoroughly destroyed. Fortunately, everything he has told me, so far, has proven true.
