Dear Members: May you please be so kind to tell me how long is a chemo therapy last? How many cycles a patient needs if the first round was successful? Are there averages? For how long a patient needs to be taking the drug?...I really appreciate your comments...Morix

I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about but here's my experience:  I had five treatments of low dose cisplatin, once a week for five weeks.  The chemotherapy enhances the radiation treatment.  Other than a small amount of hair loss, some gastrointestinal side effects and urinating a lot a few hours after the chemo because of the large amounts of liquid that you have to have go through your system to wash out the chemotherapy drug, it wasn't too difficult.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer my post. I may try to explain more clearly. My sister was medicated with taxol for several weeks. The medication worked and the tumor was gone, However, during the last appointment with her oncologist, we were really confused beacause the doctor told us that she will need to continue taking the medication. Being this a very strong chemical, as you can imagine I was worry for the toxic material (without mentioning the discomfort of the side effects). The doctor is not really communicative and when I started asking him how long she was going to take it, he said just more time? but didn't specified how many more cycles. It was my understanding, that if your treatment worked you can be out of chemo? I don't know what to think.

Thanks again for keep in touch...morix
