gall bladder cancer

My dad (73 yo wm) went into surgery to remove gall bladder(stones) and the top 1/3 of his liver (found mass). They found it was gall bladder cancer that had spread to the liver. The mass was wrapped around the portal vein leading to the liver. they removed what they could and "microwaved" the remainder. Cancer is still there.

does anyone know much info on survival rate? They have told him less than a year. I read it is truly 6-9 months.

This is a fast growing cancer. He recovered from the surgery, but what time and quality of life will he have in the next few months?

I started a blog to give as much info about being a caregiver firsthand for my mother who was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer. I hope this reaches folks and can help with some of the unknowns and anxiety- I knew some of these tips awhile ago...

Every person is different. I have had GB cancer which spread to the liver. After the GB was removed I was given a period from 6 to 12 months. That was in Jan. 2003? I have been on and off chemo. for the last 6 years. My quality of life is very good, the chemo I receive is not hard to take with very few side effects. Keep in mine everyone is different. BM

Jennifer,

Thanks so much for the link to your blog. We are just starting our journey.

We meet with the oncologist on Thursday. Will find out more then.

Your blog gives me hope.

Thank-you for your reply. I have kept your post in my file and read it many times. Your reply gave my famiy hope.

My dad had to have daily radiation treatments (20) and oral chemo during this time also. In fact, today is his last treatment in the series. He has done wonderfully. No sickness, no blisters, no red spots. His attitude is great and he will have a new scan in 2 weeks. He feels weak but good considering what he has been through.

There is hope for gall bladder cancer patients. One day at a  time.

Jennifer,

I really enjoyed your post.  My own mother has gbc.  We found out last Nov.  Two surgeries later she is doing ok.  Just enjoying every day we have together.  How is your mom doing?  I hope everything is going well.  I am looking forward to more blogs from you. God Bless you and your mom.
