I'm having surgery soon for VIN 3 & have questions

Hi all. I recently found out that I have VIN 3. The doctor I'm going to is planning a partial vulvectomy on the 10th of June. I'm so nervous because I haven't yet talked withhim about what to expect post op. He seems to be making light of it all and saying that it's a quick recovery and a simple procedure. Could someone help me out and give me some ideas on what to expect after my surgery.?

  I had surgery for a wide local excision and it was for VIN with mild to moderate dysplasia.  It was emotionally and physically painful.  Painful for quite a while.  The pain afterward is just that, PAIN, and no matter what you do, it does not go away for awhile and then all of the sudden you start to feel much better down there.  I used ice and cool wet cloths and stood in many cool showers and took benadryl for the itching while it was healing.  Mine just came back as mild and I have an appt. set up with an gynocologic oncologist for june 1 so he can take more of my vagina away.  This is not medical advice so ask your doctor what is best for you. 

        I did not have a partial vulvectomy, i had less than that.  A partial vulvectomy is tramatic and should not be taken lightly.  How would he feel if we started hacking away at his penis bit by bit, probably not so good,... that is how we feel.    I think that your doctor is a jerk for taking your situation lightly, you are having a portion of your vagina removed and it is emotionally painful as well as physically painful. 

Let me know how you are, I am a nurse by the way and I also work on an oncology floor at a hospital.  We do not get cases like ours because they are outpatient surgeries so this type of cancer is not discussed ever.

I also am a nurse. But I work in geriatrics so I never have seen this before. I felt that same way when it comes to the doc having no clue what we endure. I've done research on here about post op and what to expect but it's so minimal I wanted more info. I'm hoping that when I go on the 1st he is more considerate of my feelings. I hope he was just having a bad day when i initially saw him. The gyn I see says he is the best of the best in my location and always gets great reviews after wards. I'm also worried that I will have recurrance. Thats gonna be a big question for him also because i see quite a few posts here on recurrances. God, going throughthis surgery is hard enough once.... Can ya tell me how long you were out of work post op? The doc says probably 2 weeks but that was a rough guess and answer......... Thanks for the help.

I was diagnosed with VIN III also.  I had surgery on May 13th.  I wouldn't say that I had a partial vulvectomy.  You should be having a Wide Local Excision.  The area that was removed from me wasn't that big and actually if I was single I don't think a man would notice it if I didn't tell him.  It wasn't very painful just very sore.  I will warn you however that removing the stitches was very painful for me.  My prays are with you.  I trust that everything will go well

Thanks for the prayers hun..... The doc did say partial vulvectomy. It's a decent size area. A lump and then next to it is a lesion about the size of a dime.I'm guessing it's considered that since he is planning to take the outer parameter of it to be safe... I just pray to god that this is it and there is no recurrance. Although he does say I will always be high risk.... I'll keep you updated after my appt. Thanks for everyones help here. you are very supportive......

 

It just amazes me how I had never heard of this until I was diagnosed..I also had a lesion, no lump though...The area has healed quite well although from time to time it's a little tender.

hi im having a local incision to remove VIN 3, since my biopsy i have a grey area of wart like skin which has spread from a thumbnail size all the way down one side of my labia and i can see small areas developing on the other side.  The gyneocoligist i saw was not helpful, i felt rushed and he said my options are to apply aldarda which could last a long time or to have it cut away by wide incision which may leave me disfigured especially if i needed repeat removal..i opted for removal by incision as i can see the grey areas of skin on my genitals which are now itchy and emotially to look at them breaks me.   My main concern is once removed will they come back and if so how often, how long does the incision take to heal, and how wil it affect my sex life.  I am only 29, i have also had removal of cervix for CIN3 6 month ago.  Any advice appreciated.
