Is a nodule a tumor?

I have 3 nodules, the largest being 13 mm.  I have to get a PET scan to see if they are benign and if not, where the primary cancer is.  Have any of you had nodules that were benign?

I do not think PET scan will give u answer whether it is benign or malignant .

U may check with your oncologist again.

I start with X ray and follow by CT scan .

Then, proceed for Lung Biosy and have the Pathologist to confirm whether it is benign or malignant , also to find out the type of lung cancer and the origin of the cancer cell .

After the confirmation , then only I been advise to take PET scan, where we will hv a better view of the overall situation and also whether it have spread to other part of the body , i.e. Brain ; Bone ; Colon ..

After my PET scan result , I proceed to hv MRI for my Brain and Colonscopy and Gastroscopy for further confirmation, as PET scan can not give clear confirmation of Brain / Stomach and Colon .

Anyway, my understanding from the few oncologist that I hv meet and also my reading , is that , we need tissue Biopsy to confirm whether it is cancerous or whether it is benign or malignant .

Wish my little sharing of information will assist you .

God bless .

Pet scan can show cancer..... you drink a liquid that has "sugar" in it. The cancer cells are much more active in metabolizing sugar and they "light" up on the pet scan and thus show activity.

The biopsy will determine type, etc
