i don't know how to get started but it just hit me in the head like a brick yesterday and it just kills me to watch my husband of 47 years setting there while others are talking and he wanted to say something and could not because of his operation on may the 5th removal of the vouice box. he had tears in his eyes and it made me so sad and angry at the same time. i know it will take time but i am not sure if i am as strong as i thought i would be. i pray to God he will guide us as we go through this stage.
Hi Sandy. My spouse had his voicebox removed on October 31, 2008 so I can completely understand what you are going through. But, just know that it WILL get better! At first my husband had to write everything on a white erase board. When he finally was able to begin using an electrolarynx, I have to admit it wasn't very clear. As time passes, this really does improve. He now is able to talk on the phone and be understood by his children that live in other states. (Not sure what state you are in, but FL provided us with a special phone with an electrolarynx attached right to it. The quality is great. You might want to check with your state. ) Remember, every day he will heal a little bit more. My husband had his feeding tube removed and is now able to eat things like spaghetti and ice cream. We truly are thankful that he had the surgery and are enjoying life once again. My coworkers tell me repeatedly how strong I am. I think the secret is to celebrate even milestone in the healing process......no matter how small..........and a lot of prayer. I will try to watch the site in case you ever want to communicate....or reach out to me directly.
