i recently had an eye exam and found out i have the beginning stage of cataracts in both of my eyes.  since i am only 37 years old this is very unusual.  however, being what i have gone through in the past year, my eye dr. said it could have come from the chemo or one of the many medications i was on.

 has anyone else experienced this?

Stacey what type chemo drugs were you on? I had a checkup last year and my eyesight got a little worse after all of this chemo and the Doctor mentioned the same about chemo effecting my eyesight but no cataracts. I would not be worried for it takes many years to progress, if its going too. Take Care.  Phil A.

My husband was recently complaining about his glasses.  He mentioned that his older pair of glasses were better than his new pair.   Both were purchased at different dealers.  He was quick to blame the dealer and I said to him that I thought that maybe it could be the chemo.   Under our eye plan he's due for new glasses next February.

thank you for your responses....

Phil...my eye dr. as well as my oncologist said the same as you...not to worry.  i also remember reading things about chemo affecting eye sight, but i do not remember anything about cataracts.  however, when i mentioned it at my dr.s appointment last week, he didn't seemed surprise...i guess it is something that can happen!

 but, get this...

aside from the cataracts my eyesight has actually improved!  my prescription has gone down a notch in both eyes!  go figure.  LOL

I also experienced eye trouble while on chemo and for a period of time afterward.  I have 2 friends who had chemo and also had eye problems.
I lost the vision in my right eye for quite a while and although the opthamologist said it was not because of the chemo he couldn't explain it.
I got my sight back and gradually my eyesight got better in every way. Now I am seeing 20/20 or better with glasses even though I am a glaucoma patient.  I do hope your eyes straighten out for you.  If you do have to have cataract surgery, my understanding is that you will see much better afterward and some people don't have to wear glasses.

Stacey I went to see my neurologist  and they stated I do have a mild case of bilateral cataracts in both eyes. This has all started within the last 8 months and I hope all these gifts from chemo stop soon. (haha) Oh well, just another problem thats all. Take Care and God Bless. Phil A.
