Do your research and know what's going on!!! After LEEP....

Okay, long story short....

as some of may have read (on my posts), I was diagnosed with HGSIL ("precancer") with severe displasia. Had a cloposcopy that confirmed PAP reuslts and had a LEEP on May 15. It wasn't painful or anything. I drove myself and drove home (1 1/2 hrs.) no problem. Four days after procedure I was still having heavy gross discharge and then started bleeding. A week later I went to the doctors office because the bleeding was getting worse and cramping was severe. I saw my doc on the morning of Thursday May 28. Drove the 1 1/2 there with severe cramps and she said the site looked great. She cauterized a "pin needle" size area and sent me home. I ended up calling her Thursday night in tears. I was bleeding so bad that I was going through a super plus pad in less than 30 minutes! I also was passing large blood clots. My cramps felt like I was in labor. Her response, "I don't know what to tell you, the area looked great. I don't know where the bleeding is coming from. If you don't stop bleeding in a week come back in. Or if you want, you can come in tomorrow morning and we can do a blood test." I told her I will be sitting in a pool of blood within an hour. She said I could always go to an ER but there was nothing she could do.
Ended up going to the ER that night. Doctor there told me that if I had waited a week my OBGYN would have been visiting me in the morgue!
Needless-to-say I will NEVER be going back to that doctor. After seeing a new doctor that FRiday he said the area she removed was more than half the size of my uterus. A VERY large area for this procedure. I am still bleeding but not nearly as much. And my original doctor said to follow up in 6 months with a PAP but my new doc says not to wait more than 3 months with such severe displasia.

The reason I wrote this was not to scare anyone going through this experience but to inform you to know what's going on with your own body. If you feel something is wrong, get a second opinion. Doctors can definitely be wrong. They are human.

Sorry, my mistake, the area was half the size of my cervix not uterus :)

You are going to have to report our doctor to the medical board. If you don't have a copy of everything in your file, get it. You may have to pay for it, but it will be worth it. Don't mention the medical board. She may start purging the file, which is illegal. But you must do this to prevent her from ever doing this to another patient.

What happened to you and me is exactly why I caution women to research their conditions, their options, and their doctors before agreeing to anything.

I am truly sorry this happened to you.

I'm sorry, I meant to say report your doctor, not our doctor. I already reported my doctor.

I am so sorry to hear this from you and for you!  I am going for mine on 17 June.  I did get my reports after reading this forum.  I talked to him about laser, etc and do feel comfortable with this decision right now.  Although my labs didn't say anything like how much was involved or quadrants but more "lesion at 6 o'clock".  Anyway, I am sorry again to hear this and so glad you went to the ER.  You must trust your body!

I am so glad and proud of you for realizing that there was definitely something wrong and you weren't going to wait any longer to get medical attention.  My cancer doctors (at one of the best facilities in the country) were terrific, but when I deal with the local doctors, they don't seem to know how to think!  They refuse to see what is in front of their eyes and don't want to hear what you're saying, even though you are an expert on your own body.

Anyway, good luck and keep advocating for yourself.

Hi!  You poor thing.....I have been doctoring with one of the highest rated University Hospitals in the mid-west...and I gotta tell ya, I've had some of the worst experiences ever !!!

I had a cold knife cone biopsy for the same thing.  Only, I healed up in record time.  Have NOT had any excess bleeding, no cramping, no discharge.  But, I had to see an oncologist, because the pathology report, was totally goofed up. On the first page it lists an in situ tumor being large enough to be seen by the human eye.  On page 3 of the report, it lists it as so small, it can only be seen by a microscope!!  Big difference, huh???

But, this DR was in such a hurry, he only read the first page of the report, and didn't finish (or explain) any of the rest of it.  (that was done by a DR here, where I live)  After he did an internal check (that hurt like hell, because I was still healing from the cone biopsy, which they removed 3/4's of my cervix)...he admitted he COULDN'T see the in situ, and made the comment, "Hmm, must need a microscope to see it !!"  and scratched his head....OH BOY !!!

He wants to sliced me from the bottom of my rib cage to above my pubic bone, and rip out everything:  uterus, ovaries, muscles surrounging my uterus, many lymph nodes.  He also cautioned me that this surgery comes with RISKS of permanent damage to my bladder, and intestines !!  Yeah, like I want to do that !!

After I had another GYN/OB DR here read the FULL report, she was shocked at the misprint in the pathology report....Of course, she attributed it to the fact the University Hospital is a teaching hospital, and one of the residents probably wrote down the results WRONG !!

OH MY GOD !!!  Like I'm suppose to excuse that?????

I have had many x-rays, CT scans, untra-sounds and a D&C.....Everything has come back CLEAR....no tumors, etc.

I am heading back on Wednesday for ANOTHER consult with them.  I'm not 100% sure I need all this radical surgery....even my DR here is shaking his head at their diagnosis !!  Even radiation at this point is way to radical of a treatment !!!!!!!

If I had just given up and gone with the first diagnosis, I'd no doubt be on heavy pain meds, wearing Depends, and hoping I don't "poop" on myself!!

So, you see, DR's do make mistakes....QUESTION everything...ACCEPT nothing without lots and lots of proof !!!

Good luck !!
