A lot of Vietnam veterans have tried to go for this in the US and here in Australia I was in the NS Australian ARMY 1972 in take. A lot of us never went to Vietnam, but we trained in fields’ lace with Agent Orange, on commonwealth land, all over Australia. For years I would sweat in bed in winter and summer.  Talk about a wet blanket, it only stop when I stopped having sugary foods, and went on the Dr Budwig anti cancer diet all I can say is best of luck as I tried to go for it but no luck getting it

I am a Nam vet and I also filed for EC related to exposure to AO but was denied and now I am sending Doctor letters to my service officer with the VVA in Providence,R.I. I originally filed but the DAV let the one year expire and now I must file new and material evidence to reopen my claim from 2007. I have a Doctor at Dana-Farber, Boston, Mass. putting a letter together for me to file as evidence but have no idea what it is based on. I am doing this for the wife, so she will be able to file for DIC in the event I do not make three more years with this beast. We have posted info to each other last year and when  I receive the letter from this oncology Doctor I will make sure you receive what he writes. I hope your case was won, but know how the system has treated our vets and widows. I wish all the new returning vets nothing but the best after serving their country and pray they are treated fairly at the VA. We Vietnam vets were treated like second class citizens after returning. Take Care and God Bless.  Phil A.

Yes, Ray, my husband faced that when he go off the plane from Vietnam.  A

guy came up to him and said "were you in Vietnam?" and when Bill said "Yes, sir" the guy spit right in his face.  Bill never forgot that.  I think there are still a lot of people that hate the Vietnam veterans..how cold and callus they are.  I've watched some of the bill introduced to the congress regarding agent orange and ptsd..the general public always votes NO in the opinion poll..what does that tell you.  They make me so upset..I'm sure they never knew anyone that fought that war so have no idea what it was really about.

Never apologize for venting...you have ever right to!

Ray..I have to tell you that you should be nothing but PROUD that you stood up to that teacher's aide.  There is no doubt that by defending your uncles and father that you started a chain of events that lead to respect for our soldiers.  I am sure that teacher's aide remembered your words and passed them on to others who in turn found nothing but respect for our men in uniform.  Unfortunately the Vietnam veterans were blamed for the war instead of honored for their service.  Time has changed that somewhat but never enough because there are still those ignorant citizens out there who just don't get it.  I have to tell you that I am somewhat jealous of the honor bestowed upon our new veterans as my late husband never had that when he came home from VN.

Hello Susan and all Vets,

My husband Mike was in Viet Nam 1967-68.  He was a helicopter gunner in the mountains.  In January 2005 he was diagnosed with gastroesophageal cancer, stage IV.  He had most of his stomach and some of his esophagus removed.  The docs called it esophagus cancer and called it stomach cancer.  Whatever - he lived three years with it and died February 22, 2008.  He fought his cancer with a courage and demeanor that was beyond brave.  He was a hero, no matter what any citizens of this country think.  He was drafted and did his duty - now he is gone.  I filed a claim which was denied in October.  Of course, I am appealing this denial.

Please keep us posted as to any new developments in the pending bill in Congress.  By the way, you are all heroes.

 Diane, Mike's wife

Currently that gastric cancer bill has yet to be reintroduced.  Congressman Kagen states that he needs more research and much support from various veterans organizations.  I don't know if this is a stall or what.  Because he is in Wisconsin and I'm in South Carolina I can not e-mail him.  Anyone on this site that might be from his area..please e-mail him and encourage him to submit this bill...time is running out for our Vietnam veterans with gastric cancers.

Also, e-mail your local congressmen and senators and ask them to cosponsor AND support this bill when it is re- introduced.

I will be glad to help anyone that needs info in filing their claim.  I've done mine on my own and have gained a bit of knowledge in the know-how of things.  I'm currently in appeal but my case should be heard soon..it's been over two years.
