For over 2 years for my father in law. Still having regurgitation trouble and feel it may be more from being on Ensure for this long vs. eating/not eating. Any experience, types of foods that may help?! So far only thing we can get down him is melted ice cream/forzen yogurt or luke warm soup. Every doctor he sees says go home and eat. What can I do?!

My husband tried Ensure, then Isomil and found Nestle's Pro Balance settled best in his stomach. Also, he put whole milk with either chocolate or strawberry syrup in the feeding bag, alternating with the Pro Balance. After ingesting the liquid supplements, flushing the feeding tube with 1/2 to 1 liter of water, on a very slow drip, helped his digestion. I don't know if your father in law is using a piston syringe, electric pump or a gravity bag for his tube feedings, but my husband found that a gravity bag on an i.v. pole with a very, very slow drip kept him from getting nauseous. Hope this helps. God Speed!

Subject: RE: Feeding Tube - Try Blenderizing Food

We definitely found that gravity feed is best vs pushing food in too fast.  Our home care nurse actually says a lot of people have problems if the food goes too fast into the stomach so we always regulate the speed, take breaks in between tubes, etc.

Have you tried using real food for the feedings?  That was the best solution for us - 2 months on the tube now and normal digestion and elimination but great food variety.

We put together a website of some of our ideas and recipes at lucysrealfoods.com.  Would love your feedback if you try any of them.
