What is probiotic suppliment? Acidophlis? What do you mean when you said an infection at the PEG site and "close it up" I still cannot swallow and nearly all the veins in my right arm are already destroyed from IV's. Why do I need a Shingles shot? My doctors or nurse have not said anything about that. I am supposed to have a good support group, but if I call in to talk to the nurse, I have to wait all day to get an answer about anything. If I call the hospital after hours, I have to drive up to their ER in Seattle and I live about an hour away. So we have been going to the local hospital here each time. Sometimes I feel like we are being ignored.

HI,

I have become extremely frustrated with my inability to swallow. Since December, I have lost almost 40 pounds-my normal weight is 177-180 and I weigh in about 140-144 each day. I did get a pump to distribute my formula and yesterday got up to 6 cans (where I am supposed to be). Today is more difficult and I have so far managed 4 cans and it is 8PM. I had a visit from the speech pathologist and was given an excercise to try to learn to swallow again. It is the most difficult and fleeting thing I have ever had to do. I was wondering if anyone out there is having the same issue or has figured out how to learn to swallow on their own. I know if I can swallow, I can get my weight back, but it is not coming. The formula is Osmolite 1.5 cal. I can ask for more concentrated formula, but it isn't going to help me swallow those pancakes that I desperately want to eat! I I start radiation and chemo next week, even with the weight loss and it is just going to get worse. I can deal with the pain from all the sites from surgery and rehab my own wrist no problem, but I hope somebody can please help with some real world results. I also have a ton of mucous that interferes with swallowing and sometimes breathing. I have severe COPD and have had my colon removed since 1993. I am 58 this November. Any help is greatly appreciated.

i am hoping that i can get some information. My grandmother was just diagnosed with cancer on the back of her tongue. It is inoperable, and she will be getting radiation and chemo starting in the next month. Is yuor father still feeling well? What stage did they say that this was? Im trying to figure out what she is going to be going through. If anyone has any information i would appreciate anything i can get. She right now is seeing doctors in iowa city, but we will be getting it moved to the quad cities since we dont want her to hve to make that trip when she isnt feeling well. What is the risk of pnemonia when you are undergoing radiation? Thank you all for giving a place to turn so you can get answers from people that dont speak in complete medical terminology. Im hoping that everything works out for everyone involved.
