ANYONE WITH SEVERE STOMACH PAIN TAKING CARBOPLATIN???

Dear Group,

I know Chemo is not pleasant, however, I have suffered with terrible stomach pain after each dose of Carboplatin.  This pain lasts 12 to 15 days, I do not have any nausea just terrible pain. I spend most of the day in bed in the fetal position with a heating pad.

My oncologist seems unconcerned by this and states that stomach pain is one of the side effects and to take more morphine?????  I lost 9 pounds after the last round of Chemo.

I just would like to know if anyone else suffers with such stomach pain and for such a long time from the Carbo. I am currently taking Taxotere/Carbo every three weeks and have 3 more treatments to go..

Any help would be appreciated,

Jane

Ha......I too am experiencing abdominal pain and my oncologist seems unconcerned as well!  Said it's common to have abdominal pain after surgery......my surgery was 2 1/2 months ago and this is not post op pain.  Just started 1 week after my 3rd chemo cycle.  The literature states there can be abdominal pain with carboplatin.

My pain doesn't seem to be as bad as yours, none-the-less, pain, not discomfort and no real insight from my oncologist.

Anyone one else with similar issue?

Dear Linda,

Talk to your oncologist about the possibility of a yeast infection in your esophagus.  Yesterday, I had a visit with my doctor and they came to the conclusion that I had a severe yeast infection causing this pain at the point of my stomach and esophagus.  I have been started on Nystatin - 4 times a day, plus 2 other stomach meds, and will continue this treatment during my next chemo treatment on Thursday and for 2 more weeks.

Maybe yeast is also causing you such pain.  Again, I have pain - no nasuea. I will not know if this is really the vcorrect answer OR if it is the drug until after this next go round Thursday.  I will keep you posted.

Good luck,

Jane

Jane,

Glad they were able to come up with at least a possible diagnosis.  My pain is in the lower abdominal area.  I'm going for CT scans tomorrow......we'll see.  I'll keep you posted as well.

Good luck!

Linda

I find that most interesting.  I to have lower abdominal pain after carbo.  It is oftern sharp, but lasts only a few minutes.  Then it appears to go away.  I will tuck this info away in case it gets worse.

Thanks for sharing and keep usinformed.

I had severe lower abdominal pain after receiving carboplatin.  I went to the hospital and they removed my appendix.  Now wondering if it was just a reaction to meds.
