Anyone being treated in PA or MD?

My father was just diagnosed this week and we are frantically trying to find a good doctor or facility. Is anyone being treated in central or eastern Pennsylvania (Harriburg/Hershey/Philladelphia) or outside Baltimore who can recommend a doctor or facility for EC?

Thanks! Amanda

Hi Amanda,

I was treated and my EC surgery was performed at St. Joseph Hospital Center in Towson, Maryland. My Thoracic Surgeon was Dr. Lope T. Villa. He is an EXTREMELY talented, skilled and compassionate doctor who literally, I trusted with my life.

I was diagnosed in early November of 2001 at age 37. My surgery was performed on November 28, 2001. I am coming up on 8 years of a cancer free life.

Last I heard, Dr. Villa was semi-retired, however I have never confirmed this. If you would like more information, PLEASE feel free to ask me and I will gladly share anything that I can.

In the mean time, I will add your father and entire family to my prayer list.

Stay strong in Faith, Heart and Mind - Bruce F.

My husband has esophageal cancer and was operated on by Dr. Lebenthal at Fox Chase in Philly.  I have to say he received excellent care for the two weeks he was there.  I cannot recommend an oncologist, as we use on in NJ, but I'm sure Dr. Lebenthal's office would be able to recommend one.

Two pieces of advice; he should have a feeding tube placed - it has been a life-saver since my husband has not been able to eat by mouth for several months; if surgery is contemplated, see if it can be done laproscopically, which can reduce recovery time substantially.

Hi Amanda,

My dad was treated by Dr. Luketich at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. I can't say enough good things about him and his staff. He is a reknowned and highly respected surgeon.

I wish you and your dad the best!

Chrysti
