As a 15-year ovarian cancer survivor, I've suffered occasional isolated re-occurences, the most recent in my mediastynum 3 years ago. I underwent a mediastenectomy followed by gemzar and 3 rounds of radiation treatments. The results were that 1 or 2 affected lymph nodes would disappear and others would develop nearby with each treatment.

I began Avastin treatments at 3 week intervals in February. My latest ptscan was the most positive in years, showing only 1 node remaining, and shrunken at that. We're continuing the treatments in the hope that the area will be cancer-free eventually. If this can even be my "maintenance drug of choice" I will be happy to revert to it as needed. The side effects are minimal - some muscle cramps and lack of energy - a small price to pay. Good luck with your treatments.

My mom is about to start the avastin at 3 week intervals as well. What stage of Ovarian Cancer were you? Did they talk to you about the possible perforation of the bowel? Did you lose your hair? We have tried SO MANY different treatments in the last 5 years and feel like we are at the end of the road... Any helpful ideas?
