I am trying to find out from our esophageal cancer group how often you have CT scans ? I am changing my present facility and Doctor and turning my care back to the Veterans Affairs Hospital in New England. At present I have scans every four months for the first two years and then it was to be every six months for two years and then once a year for two years. I really would appreciate any info regarding your schedules and I thank you all in advance. Take Care and God Bless.  Phil A.

Hi,

I am in Ireland (and have private health care) and got a CT every 6 months for the first two years, will be getting them yearly until year 5 and then I have not been told.

Hope that this helps,

Aoife

Hey Phil,

I had scans every six months for three years. Now I am on a yearly schedule.

Good Luck, KEEP MOVING, and Laugh Much,

Steve

Hi Phil:

I alternate between scans and xrays and ultra sounds every three months for the next 2 years, then every 6 months, for the following 2 years, and then 1 once a year and then the oncologist will release me. The reason they opted for alternating between the two is the doc says one CT SCAN is equal to 75 xrays of radiation and she does not want my body to under go so much radiation.

Thank you all for the response I really appreciate the help. I will be taking my care from Brigham & Womens in Boston who just wrote an article about to many CT's and the harm they cause which was on this site. I will be treated by outside Doctors contracted by the Veterans Administration to continue my care and all future scans which will be spread to six month apart for the first three years then once a year until I reach my fifth year, God willing. I feel every four months for my case is a little to much radiation that I do not want but this is my case and decision, for everyone's condition is different. Again, thank you all. Take care and god bless.  Phil A.

My husband has stage IV and we were told he would have scans every 2 months. We haven't been given a schedule, just that every 2 months they would do the scans to see how he's doing.

I just had a thought.....are you talking about scans after being NED, or during treatment?
