PSA Levels and Various Treatment Questtions

My 83 year old father was diagnosed with prostatic cancer 3 years ago. At that time the urologist put him on lypron as required depending on his psa levels. That seemed to hold him off for a year or so until his psa levels went up to 36. Then he was put on the lupron every 4 months which held him off for about 2 years.Recently his psa jumped up to 23 so now he is on casodex as well as the lypron yet no tests were ordered to determine if the cancer has spread. I am wondering what the prognoses is for my father as well as if the raising psa levels indicated it has spread..

Thank you, Jane

Hi Jane strange no tests were ordered to determine if the cancer has spread. I know The only way to tell with advanced prostate cancer is, with a bone scan, and ct scan, but at his age. He might do well with what a lot of us are on. like the holistic treatment of Vitamin and mineral supplements, red clover,or pomegranate extract and no sugary foods, and the Dr Budwig anti-cancer diet, should help to bring his PSA down, it dos with us. All the best Ray

No one knows the answer to how long hormone therapy might continue to be effective in a given situation, but it can continue to work for longer than often thought.

Everyone is different, and an alternative kind of medication, or the addition of Casodex will  often be more effective.

I always suggest that anyone interested in hormonal therapy read the book by Dr Charles Myers on the subject of hormone therapy and diet.

Another good place for information and stories from men who have used various treatments including hormones is the yananow website.

It would also be worthwhile consulting a medical oncologist expert in prostate cancer.
