Has anyone tried degarelix yet? It's a new hormone shot. My husband is considering taking it.

hi moocho1 my name Ray  welcome to the site how is your husban going I have advanced prostrate cancer a lot of us use other ways to treat our prostrate cancer I use holistic theripy to treat mine it an alternative treatment  but it works real well if you like  I can tell you about it later I know a few of the members on cancer compass use hormone treatment I can tell you a lot about that to

moocho1 I dont know if you know this but you husban prostrate cancer  have two types of cancer androgen depenent cancer and androgen in depenant cancer after a while the androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) knocks off the androgen dependent cancer so what lefe is androgen in depentant cancer this can takes a few years or a few month then the androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) stop working

therapy is also called androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) or androgen suppression therapy. The goal is to reduce levels of the male hormones, called androgens, in the body. The main androgens are testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Androgens, produced mainly in the testicles, stimulate prostate cancer cells to grow. Lowering androgen levels often makes prostate cancers shrink or grow more slowly. However, hormone therapy does not cure prostate cancer.

as I said be for Can you let us know how he going keep in tuch take care and God bles you both Ray

I received two initial Firmagon (degarelix) injections 240mg., in April followed by one monthly injection, 80mg., until September. PSA dropped in one month from 2.4 down to 1.8 and now down to 0.5. I previously received 3 month Lupron (Trelstar) injections on an intermittent hormone therapy dosing schedule for the past two years. My experience with Firmagon is overall superior compared to Lupron side effects. My energy levels increased significantly, I look and feel better but I still experience the usual hormone side effects, loss libido, hot flashes etc.  The downside to Firmagon (degarelix is the monthly stomach injections. Very PAINFUL for about two days. Click  the following to read more experiences. http://csn.cancer.org/node/170142

Best wishes to your Husband and I hope my experience helps in his decision.

Glen
